I bet Gio is catching tons of smack from opposing players on the pitch. I can see a player giving Gio a hard tackle and then telling him to go cry to his parents if he doesn't like it. He'll hear it for years.

Just wait. Wait until Claudio and Danielle start texting the sporting director at BVB.

Wouldn't it be the other way around?

So the Reyna's according to Ernie said what they said so GGG wouldn't get rehired. So if GGG isn't rehired the Reyna's took one for the team. Thank you for your service!

And Claudio tanked his own career for the pleasure. Good for him, I guess.
Downvote me if you’re scared of Danielle’s retribution

If I recall correctly, Gio's poor attitude was because Berhalter told Gio that he would have a limited role in the WC.
Would like to hear some of y'alls thoughts on whether that was a good move or not?
Probably wouldn't have changed anything because if Berhalter hadn't said anything and barely played Gio, his parents would still be upset. Still curious to hear others thoughts on whether that was a good decision.

In retrospect, it was dumb to call in Gio if he wasn't match fit. But, at the time, we all would've had a conniption fit if Gio was left off the roster.
I do wonder if Gregg told Gio he'd have a limited role in Qatar before or after Gio loafed around during the fitness test. It would make more sense if that's how the timeline worked out, but as we're learning seemingly every month with this shite, none of it really makes any sense.

This conversation has to be prefaced by us acknowledging that no one knows what “a limited role” means or how this discussion went down. All we know is Gio told his parents that Gregg was saying his role would be limited. No clue if that means “I’m not playing you major minutes for xxx reason” or some variation of “you’re not healthy/Weah and Pulisic have the wings on lock.” I really wish Gregg would just come out and tell us what he told Gio and why.
I’m of the mind that Gio has a worrying attitude and entitlement problem that comes directly from his parents. I pray it doesn’t affect his development or his role with the USMNT going forward, any more so than it already has.
On its face not playing one of our better players during the World Cup looks ridiculous. But the more we hear about the behind the scenes stuff the more Gio looks like a petulant child. Not trying hard during scrimmages, refusing to participate in conditioning drills, refusing to let the medical staff assess him, coming to blows with Adams, etc etc. It’s the actions of a kid who’s always gotten what he wants and was never told no.
That’s tough to manage as a coach, especially at a tournament like the WC. I personally think he did an ok job overall, but that may put me at odds with much of this board. I would love input from guys like Hendo who actually coach to tell us what they would do in a similar situation. Did Gregg worry about losing the locker room by playing someone who didn’t work as hard as his teammates?

The USSF clearly needs to tell the Reynas to shut the frick up and leave.
As long as the USSF is dominated by men who played soccer in the NYC metropolitan area in the late 80s and early 90s, women who played soccer at UNC in the same time period, and former USMNT players from the 1994-2002 World Cup squads, this will be a challenge if these people continue to treat Claudio Reyna the way the Argentines treated Maradona.
The Argentines squandered one of their best squads ever to placate Maradona, a man who failed at every aspect of his life in monumental fashion from the age of 33 onwards.
Claudio Reyna is clearly not as much of a train wreck, but our team isn’t nearly as gifted as the Argentines of 2010. We can’t shut a very important subset of US soccer out of governing so it’s important that these people grow a spine and freeze out the Reynas.

I feel like this is a separate topic, but we need some different blood in the ranks. We cant just hire the 94 team and let them run it. If pay fo rplay is bad, then not playing because your daddy didnt play with me is even worse.

What's so stupid about this is that none of this happens if Gio doesn't blow out his hammy in El Salvador in the first qualifier.
And greggg would still be coaching.

I’ve always wanted open and honest communication when I played.
Can’t speak for everyone or anyone else.
If I coached I would be open and honest.
I think this should be the way in every relationship. Couples. Work(which is what soccer is). Friends.

And Gio would be wondering why he wasn’t playing. I know I would be.
I still remember a game I didn’t start. No explanation. That was 27 years ago. I still remember it. Assistant coach even asked my why I wasnt. on the field at kickoff. I just shrugged my shoulders. I’m pissed typing this. Was never told why. And to be clear. I didn’t start a lot of games after that for other teams. But still remember that one time.

I still don't think he was coming back even if this stuff didn't happen. I think, unless Gregg made a run to the quarters or better, the plan for 2026 was always to go get a big name and push all our chips on the table. It was very telling that everyone was so hush-hush about his future with the team in the week after we were eliminated.
