Invest in a legit coach. Don't think about someone who "is available." Go take someone worth it who "isn't available." Money talks. With a hosted World Cup and a team like we could have - go for broke.

Tuchel - who actually is available but might be getting the Germany call up. Or Gallardo, although I have to be honest I haven't watched too much River Plate. Also available but getting looks.

Igor Tudor? Or Spalleti? A solid mid tier coach with a good development resume.

I'm not saying I have the exact answer, but "not available," should not deter us with this kind of setup in 2026.

I like the idea of bringing a foreign coach with big country and big tournament international experience

But not a Jurgen - he lucked/talented into the 06 semis and we all know Low was the mastermind behind that

Clint and Alexi were going on about 15/16 knockout teams have coaches from same country - but come on we are not France, Argentina, or Brazil

US coaching is what's held us back forever

I would rather Roberto Martinez than any of the others that have been mentioned in the last few posts.

He's my clear number one.

I think this is more happenstance than an actual recipe for winning a World Cup.

That's a broad brush. Our best NT manager of all-time was Bruce. Say what you want about him trying to pick up Jurgen's pieces, but what he did from 1999-2005 was objectively brilliant.

Martinez would be great

After two cycles with Belgium, he may want back into club ball though

Just keep saying it until it comes to fruition.

I still think there is a better chance that Gregg isn't our manager for 2026 than is, but the fact that we're even at the table with him right now is so dumb. Have we not learned our lesson? Our last three World Cup managers all regressed with a second cycle

I agree but I also wonder who the viable alternatives are right now. Anyone want to spitball some candidates? I hear Tata is available

Some of it was, some of it was some serious conjecture. Jay wasn't as involved in Gregg's hiring process as some believe or want to believe.

With that said, the optics of that hiring never looked good.

Bielsa or Martinez would be great hires imo, although I wonder if we have the legs/depth for the insane press of the former. Tuchel has a great pedigree but I worry about him isolating players and fracturing relationships. Martinez seems like the safe choice.

Tuchel would only make sense if we hired him in like 2025 because he usually pisses off everyone he works for by year 2 or year 3 of wherever he's at.

Just hire the best coach regardless of nationality. Only requirement is speaking English so you can communicate with the players

Call the guy that was actually interested that we didn't even ask to interview. Lopetegui.

Hopefully the Gregg talks are for him to continue as an interim.
