We are much more talented top to bottom than Wales.

FIFA only cares about money. They’d love for the US and China to be great at soccer.

The US being good at soccer really doesn't change revenue for FIFA. We're not developing a major league anytime soon

No . We've been saying that shite since 1994 when the WC came hear. We've been investing for damn near 28 years. We have a decent pro league. Where are the veterans? I mean Lalas, Ramos, Balboa back in the day were not world beaters, but dammit, they played together and periodically the would beat more talented teams.

You'd think after almost 30 years we would make a deeper run into the tournament than the first game of the knockout round.

Do we have to go and offer some Brazilians citizenship or something?

We have a lost generation between the Dempsey/Landon era and our current squad. That's why we're the 2nd youngest team in the WC this year and why we didn't qualify in 2018

We have a ton of young talent playing all over Europe, which is something we have never done. We ARE developing more talent.

For the first time in my life we have numerous Americans playing on top tier soccer powerhouses. The likes of Adams, pulisic, and Mckennie have NEVER been on the us team before. The future is bright. But yes I am still pissed they can’t seem to win the big one.

From a talent standpoint this is by far the best team we have ever had (at least on paper). Our best guys are playing at top European clubs which has never happened before. It used to be a few that played in Europe and that was it. With the academy system finally starting to ramp up and our best players heading to European academies as soon as they can will continue this trend. Just need a better coach and some more experience for the youngsters.

And we will continue to develop more talent. The problem is our MLS fricking coach. If we had a world class coach this team would be fricking dangerous. But we don’t do our ceiling is very much capped until we get rid of Gregg

I mean just look at the drop off between Weah and Dest and their MLS subs. It was painfully obvious. One day, that drop off won’t be nearly as pronounced

Because our entire attack the last 20 years has always been kick it out wide, big crosses (that are off target) and hope for a lucky header or deflection.

The US team has always been scared to have someone pull one back and rip a shot from 18-24 out.

The same reason Wales hadn’t made a World Cup for 58 years

….it’s pretty frickin hard

Hell I don’t even need a Cup but I’d at least like to see us be consistently in the quarters.

To be fair, if Wales was qualifying out of CONCACAF instead of UEFA, they'd probably make the World Cup at the same rate Costa Rica has.

Our best athletes chase better chances at fame/fortune with the other top sports?

Ah, this beautiful logic makes its triumphant return.

Coaching at the grass roots level is the problem, not talent. You can pick all the NFL or NBA athletes you want, they wouldn't be superstars in soccer just because they are superstars in other sports.

Pump the brakes. Maybe no one in their exact situation, but are we ready say that just because they are in big leagues?
