Stupid statement I know, but I was under the impression Hisense was Australian.

I have 55" version in one room in my home. An LG 65" B7a in another. The Sony's video upscaling processor is worlds better than the LG.

I have a 2018 TCL Series 6 that I got from costco back in the day. It’s still great. I use an Apple TV box on it instead of roku because i have a whole apple ecosystem in my house. I’ve loved it. It’s been good to me.

Replaced my Samsung (good older tv) with a Hisense 65in U8N. Had it just over a year and the picture quality is amazing.

We have a 75" in the bedroom. Our old living room TV always gets demoted to the bedroom and replaces whatever was in there previously

I have a 75 inch TCL 5 series. picture is solid. I know it is nothing close to an OLED, but i also know my kids will destroy it in the next few years. i paid like $650 for a 75 inch tv 3 years ago. Absolutely no regrets.

fantastic Sony A80J 77” OLED

Literally the only expensive piece of tech I’ve ever bought that crapped out within a couple years. I still have a 15 year old ps3 that operates and my Sony barely made it 25 months.

That’s terrible. Out of warranty and anything else?

Uh oh. I’m replacing my new 2-week-old 98” TCL QM8K on Monday with an 85” Sony Bravia 9.

Everyday stuff looks OK but it can’t handle football motion and the like very well at all. Lot of judder and artifacts and halos. Changed tons of settings; little improvement.

Maybe I’m just spoiled by the Sony processing look. Also, 98-inch, while cool and wowing, magnifies all flaws. Maybe that’s why not many brands are rushing to it just yet.

I feel TCL and Hisense are keeping the prices down on 98s by scrimping on proper processing. Also notice that Sony and Samsung are relegating 98s to their mid tier lines just to satisfy consumer demands. They might know that 98s are not ready just yet. Maybe another year or two that will all change.

Also, I’ve seen the new 97-inch LG G5 OLED and it is fantastic — but also $24,000!!

Interesting. Glad you sorted it out while the return window was still open.

So far I'm loving my 75" QM7 but now you got me wondering about sports. I've been super focused on the black levels for all the creepy dark sci-fi I watch and my son has been loving the gaming mode but I haven't really tried sports yet.

Perfect weekend coming up to see how your TCL handles sports action. Curious consumers appreciate it!

Tonight’s OU-Bama game was a good example: closeups were fine but the field camera was very soft and fuzzy, and occasionally the ball was lost in long passes.

The 98 inches magnified the flaws. My 77 OLED in bedroom was much crisper. I also think that faces are too bright on TCL. Too much brightness can be just that, too much brightness.

I’ll report back next week after I’ve watched games on the 85” Bravia 9.

Watched a YouTube video and it pointed out Sony processing was easier to tune up while TCL could get nice but took a lot of fiddling with.

TCL QM8K

Kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on it when amazon had the 85" on sale for $1700 a couple of weeks ago.

I don't necessarily need a new TV but I'll be price watching that one. Would like to upgrade my living room TV and put the 65" in my bedroom.

Sony Bravia 9 85” installed and running nicely. Was easy to tweak and get almost OLED quality. I now know what all the fuss is about with the Bravia 9.

Football games, NFL and bowl games, look great. Highly satisfied. Improvement over TCL QM8 98”.

And the 85” Bravia 9 is now $3199 — down from summer price of $4299.

The TCL is nice but not like this.

TCL has closed a lot of the gap on hardware, especially with their Mini LED panels. Brightness and contrast on the QM8 and QM9 are strong, and for very large sizes they offer value Sony does not touch anymore. The tradeoff is processing and motion, Sony still wins there. If this is mainly for movies and sports in a bright room, the TCLs make sense. If you care most about motion and upscaling, Sony still feels more polished.

As said, I’m still fooling with picture settings but my Apple TV 4K box is sending a damn nice Dolby Vision IQ signal. Had to turn down brightness from 100 to 70 for now. Really really bright picture.

I have a 75in Hisense U8 mini-LED, little over 1 year old. I also use Apple TV 4K box, and I actually had to turn off Dolby Vision because everything was so dark. I fought with the settings on both my tv and the Apple TV forever and finally just gave up and set it to regular 4K.

I still wonder if the issue is the Hisense or specific settings I have wrong.
