I’m referring to avid travelers who are in wanderlust and always seeking to see more of the world and new places.

Do you relate to family and friends who are not travelers? Do you find it to be like politics or religion, obviously not as divisive, but is it something that isn’t brought up and you talk about other things?

Ive never understood the people whose idea of travel/vacation every year is a trip to the beach... Fla/Ala..

Obviously, there is nothing wrong with that and to each their own, its just not for me...

edit: I'll add that me and the missus dont have kids and I know thats an easy, affordable trip for a lot in the southeast..

I know people that don’t care to go further west than Texas. It’s mind boggling to me, but like you said, to each their own.

I always get shite comments from neighbors/coworkers like "I wish I had money like yall "

The funny thing is... almost everyone thats made the shite comments prob make more $$ than I do. They just choose to go out to eat every day and always have brand new vehicles in their driveway. Wife and I both drive older, paid for cars and really keep tabs on our budget so we can take 4 or 5 pretty nice trips a year. Thats just how we like to spend our $$

That’s cool about road trips in the US. I’m mostly curious about international trips where people can have this blank stare on their face when you tell them where you’re going and they are like “why would you go there”?

Usually an envious conversation that quickly turns to the most exciting things they’ve done around the house. Gardens and painting a bedroom are top hits.

Completely agree. I definitely look down on certain groups of people as being low class - those that are picky eaters and unwilling to try a variety of foods (especially other ethnicities) and people whose only travel desire is to spend a week at Orange Beach or Destin every year. I think these are clear signs of being low brow.

Dude. I've been to 33 countries and eaten stuff as weird as maguey worms in Mexico and cuy in Peru, but I certainly don't look down on people just because they don't have the same interests that I do. Wow.

My brother and sister are not as adventurous as I am - but it’s always been like that. It’s not divisive but I wish they’d see more of the world. My mom used to travel, and I’m trying to convince her to do more since she’s retired - but she doesn’t listen to me.

It should be a requirement when you turn 18 to have to spend 90 days in some shithole.

I mean if you are judging people for how they choose to recreate, eat and generally live their lives I’m not sure you’ve traveled enough yourself.

We usually go to orange beach once a week ourselves. It’s not my choice vacation, but it gets 11 first cousins together whose parents have different budgets and needs. And frankly that week of sitting on the beach, watching movies, playing putt putt and eating nothing but Costco food is terrific.

I could get on board with this. I also think it should be a requirement that everyone work as an orderly in a hospital at one point in their life.

That box has already been checked for our Shreveport resident folks.

The usual from most is "why would you go there!?" when it's anywhere outside of the ordinary, specifically for "less popular" Euro destinations.

My favorite is when people say things about the cost of international travel, but will pay $2k+ for a week in Alabama and eat at overpriced seafood restaurants all week. No that there's anything wrong with FL/AL beach vacations (we usually do a short trip every year with the kids), but there's a lot you can do for the same cost or less. It just takes more planning and I guess a lot of people aren't into that, which is understandable.

That's the difference between travel and a vacation. I like the beach or Vegas, but they are short and chill trips. Travel is seeing everything there is to see and getting out and experiencing the place. they are 2 very different things.
