Houston Medical Center area questions

Hi all,
We are flying into Houston Monday night for a day and a half of testing and evaluations at Texas Children's Hospital to see if we are candidates for in-utero surgery to repair our daughter's spina bifida lesion. We are in testing/consults all day Tuesday, half a day Wednesday and then fly out Wednesday evening.
Are there any good places to eat in that area that we should/could hit up on Tuesday evening? Maybe a good Texas BBQ place?
If we are candidates the procedure would be the week of Halloween and we would have to stay until the week before Thanksgiving for follow-up monitoring. Our two year old would be with us for that stay.
What are things in the area (or even elsewhere in Houston) that we could take him to get him out of the hotel/Air BnB? I think I saw that the zoo is somewhat close by. Is there anything in Austin/San Antonio that would be worth the drive?

I can't really think of anything for kids that would be worth driving to SA or Austin. The Houston Museum of Natural Science is great for kids. As far as BBQ, Truth or Pit Room are the closer places I would recommend, Truth one of the best in town, both perennial top 5 places. The zoo is great if weather is good. New gorilla and Galapagos exhibits. The children's museum is ok but not as good as New Orleans. The Color Factory is pretty great for kids. There is an aquarium downtown which isn't great, but my daughter likes it. Kemah boardwalk is fun for kids. My daughter is 2 and loves all the places I mentioned.
Also there are multiple websites that have info on specific events for kids each weekend. Renaissance fest would be going on around then and is pretty fun, but a drive from the med center.

The butterfly exhibit is cool. I think it is at the museum the guy above mentioned.

Our Museum of Natural Science is one of the best in the country. My grown daughter (no pics) recently went to NYC and went to their Museum of Natural History because her friends wanted to go. She said Houston's was better. We have T Rex! The Butterfly Center is there and it is pretty cool. The Zoo has the regular Zoo stuff (see animals) but currently at night has Zoo Boo with lights and Halloween stuff that y'all might like. You might also look at Hermann Park and walk around down there. There is a little train and also paddle boats that your child might like.
The Pit Room is really close to the Medical Center. Common Bond Bakery has a location nearby and is good. I thought maybe Hobbit House or one of the Barnaby's locations, but they may only do brunch on the weekends. Snooze is very good, but usually busy. The Breakfast Klub is an iconic chicken and waffles spot that's close. It's near TSU and U of H and depending on the time or day you might see a famous rapper, ladies of the evening, families of all kinds, college students, business folks, and people headed to or leaving church.

The Children's Museum, Zoo, Hermann Park (there's a train you can ride). You could take the light rail to the Aquarium downtown. Discovery Green is a big park area downtown. Moody Gardens and Kemah Boardwalk are about an hour drive.
If you're into football, Rice, TSU and UH are all pretty close and the tickets aren't expensive.
For food, there are a bunch of places nearby in Rice Village and in the Midtown area. I've heard good things about Feges BBQ and The Pit Room, which are close to that area, but I haven't tried them myself.
I hope everything goes well with the testing.

Ive been to Cyclone Anaya’s, just a few blocks from H Medical Center. Very delicious Tex Mex. Highly recommend.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I plan to spend some time tomorrow and Friday looking a little more in depth. A quick glance of the menus at Pit Room and Cyclone Anaya's puts both very high on the list of to-dos.
Really appreciate the suggestions for the kiddo. Don't think we can handle a stir crazy toddler in addition to everything else.

If you hit the pit room, the tacos are my favorite thing on the menu, not standard bbq but delicious.
Beef tacos al carbon and any order of enchiladas are my go to at cyclones. Tamales are meh.
A couple of others worth mentioning, Hu's Cooking is my favorite standard chinese in Houston, their fried rice is amazing. Hopdoddy is a small burger chain, but greatburgers in the rice village. Someone someone mentioned snooze already, but the line there can be ridiculous sometimes for breakfast/brunch. Black Walnut is another place in rice village that is good for breakfast. Croissant Brioche in rice village is a standard lunch place for me, great deserts and sandwiches (french bakery).
Please post any more questions here and I'll keep an eye out and help the best I can. Good luck.

Kid friendly places nearby...Local Foods, Hungry's, Island Grill, Little Matt's, the Pit Room is a good option, Candente is next door to the Pit Room and is my go to for Tex Mex in Houston, Mia's just in the immediate area.
If you end up staying longer I can give you a big arse list that expands you range a little bit that is kid friendly.
The Zoo, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Color Factory (expensive as shite), Wonderwild (indoor bounce place), Memorial Park Eastern Glades and the Houston Arboretum are good for a walk and your 2 year old can see a bunch of turtles, frogs, lizards...from time to time the Arboretum will break out a animal for the kids to touch-mine love it, Moody Gardens.
There are a ton of parks...I have a 3 year old and 5 year old, so we take advantage of them from time to time. Levy Park off Richmond just on other side of 59. The playground at West University Elementary is open to the public-Little Matt's and Tiny's Milk and Cookies is within walking distance.
Donovan Park or better known as the "Train Park" is in the Heights if you want to take a drive up that way...Heights Mercantile is across the street and has a Local Foods which a good casual sandwich spot.
The POST is a food hall downtown that has a massive rooftop that's good for letting kids run around, The Stomping Grounds over off of 34th street has a big green space and a bunch of restaurants to choose from, d'Alba in the same area is kid friendly as well.
