Looking to do a summer trip with the kids 16 and 15 years old. Not wanting to go to the beach and no flying. Anywhere In Arkansas that would be fun for outdoor activities? Thought about Savanna, GA but not sure if that is a fun place for kids. We’ve done Gatlinburg /Pigeon Forge so that isn’t an option. Thanks for any ideas.

Table Rock Lake right outside of Branson. Rent a boat for a day on the water and plenty of hikes.

The problem with the south is it’s brutally hot pretty much everywhere in the summer. Go further north or some places out west and you can camp outside as the temps drop into the 50s and 60s at night. Driving from the Deep South you are just limited unless you are talking a 12-15 hour car ride.

Outside of lakes and cities which are still hot, again you are just limited with outdoor activities.

Hot Springs is pretty cool for a few days. Adventure Works has a zip line and ropes course, canoe the caddo river, Lake Catherine State Park is nice and has some hikes that take you to small waterfalls, Magic Springs amusement park is fun, it has a water park inside it as well. The town itself is nice, museums, the tower, Maxwell Blade magic show was good. On the way there or back you could dig for diamonds at Crater of the
Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, it's about an hours drive Southwest of Hot springs. That would keep you busy for a few days.

We took the kids to Broken Bow, Oklahoma for spring break and had a great time. Plenty of very nice cabins there and lots of hiking and activities in the area. Wasn’t a bad drive either.

I’ve taken a couple of midsummer trips to the midwest and the weather was awesome. Look into that area of the country.

Head to the Ozarks in Missouri/Arkansas. You can beat the heat somewhat and you can venture up to Branson for a day of rollercoasters and tons of lake activities.

We stayed near Jasper 2 years ago and loved it. Great hikes and we rented a boat on Bull Shoals Lake, great trip.
And Kayaked the Buffalo River.

Are you a felon?

If you're willing to drive 10-12 hours one way, you're 1 plane ticket in, and you're kiling two days of your vacation.

It’s 10 1/2 hours per the map app from Houma (if that’s correct) to Cashiers, NC. Rent a two bedroom cabin on Lake Glenville. You can spend time on the lake plus plenty of hikes and other things to do in the area.
It will probably take you more like 12 hours to get there though with gas stops, etc.

We're looking at N Georgia, the Blairsville area next summer, is that area of North Carolina that much better? Trying to decide if It's worth the extra 1:45 drive.

I'm currently on a southern trip. I plan on a couple of days at Myrtle Beach then cross the South. I want to explore Southern Culture and avoid the tourist spots like Disney and such. I'm especially interested in the music, Civil Rights, and Civil War.

I've received some great ideas from the football board and was hoping for more info from here.

Yes. That area is nicer. Higher elevations.

Look up bust your butt falls if you have kids.
