Thinking about doing a solo trip to Big Bend in June.

I know it’s hot, but it’s the only time I can do it before November. I need some isolation time in the wilderness, hiking, star gazing, etc. Wife is supportive of me going.
Any tips or suggestions? Looking at getting a casita in Terlingua for 3-4 nights.
ETA: I am bumping this thread to relate that I have booked 4 nights at the Chisos Mountains Lodge. Has anyone done the crossing into Mexico at Boquillas del Carmen? Looks like a fun experience for a few hours.

Just be sure to report to the ranger station if you are going into the backcountry.

you can spend several nights easy in chisos basin backcountry camping sights. They had a bad fire though recently so check the website for conditions/etc. they are hike-in and you have to reserve in advance
You’ll need to pack in all your water so that’s the limiting factor. It’s gorgeous, we went in October and it was still very hot but was nice at night. In June it will be really hot. Bring bear spray
Terlingua is great. Eat/drink at starlight at least one nite. There’s also a great taqueria

That is some of the most remote and solitary hiking I’ve ever done. I wasn’t alone, but we hardly saw anyone on the most popular trails. Be very careful and leave a plan and note. Especially in the heat. We hiked in the cool weather.

Go for a beer at La Kiva in Terlingua. Lots of interesting stories at this place.

I went by myself spring break a couple years ago. I just camped at an area near Terlingua on this guys property. Loved it and can't wait to go back.

I'd just stay at the chisos lodge, that's where we went in August one year, up there it was only 60-80, it was 107 in terlingua

Since my original post, I have come around to this. Would require me going a week later than I planned as it is all booked up. But I’m gonna do it.

I thought about this before and it’s a days drive away from me. Keep us updated on what you decide and post trip analysis.

Hiking the rim trail in the chisos mountains is one of my favorite hiking experience. It was in august but the climate in the mountains was wonderful. Watched a bear and two cubs pawing throughout the leaves in a ravine below me. Ran into a herd of mule deer. Did two nights of back country camping and three days of hiking to explore the full trail. Would recommend.
This was 15 years ago so backcountry conditions/procedures I have no idea.

yes we did the south rim loop with one overnight at the campsite closest to the rim. One of the best outdoor experiences we’ve ever had
that said, that’s where the fire was. It certainly is still charred and that’s a short term shame because it’s was beautiful
the loop without climbing Emory peak is 12.5 miles (6 in, 6 out). I’m not sure we could have carried any more water than we did and it was just enough

I just did a 2 night backcountry hike around the outer mountain loop 3 weeks ago. It was 35 miles and 7200’ of elevation gain and was extremely difficult!
June would be too hot to do that but I’m sure there are some shorter day hikes that are manageable. You can also go into Mexico at Boquillas crossing, but will probably be hot af in June

I would be dead. Literally, irrevocably dead. They would have to fly my body out.

Bump.
I want to spend part of a day crossing into Mexico at Boquillas del Carmen. I read they had a ferry, so I'm thinking - hey great, a ferry!
Here is a picture of the ferry.
