I brought him up a couple weeks ago and no one seemed interested.
Campbell and Napier are my dark horse candidates. Both are offensive coaches and have been able to accomplish more with less. With all of the resources LSU has I think they would do great here.
Everyone seems to be chasing the shiny object, big name, big program coaches. These guys have proven to be able to build something out of nothing. That's more impressive.

So why not hire those coaches instead?

Some people would`nt know a good coach if he hit you in the face.Campbell is a hell of a coach. The last coach who won
like he has at iowa st. was Johnny Majors who left yhere
and won a natty at pittsburg. All this dosen`t fit and from
the midwest is a bunch of BS. This was said about Nick.We
know how that turned out.A good coach can coach anywhere.

Camphell is a fine coach but he isn't going to leave that job for lsu.

Yeah, he coaches at Alabama. That didn't help your case. At All.

IMO, Campbell = Saban at Michigan State. I like the idea and see a fundamental difference between guys like Campbell (and Napier to a lesser extent) and folks that win at places like Houston, Cincinnati, etc… is they are winning at places where it is historically difficult (impossible). If Campbell can solve the problem of winning in Ames, he can win here if has the discipline to not go off the tracks like CEO.

Campbell signed an extension this year. The buyout may be stiff, or not worth the investment considering what could be available elsewhere.

He lost a game.

I love Matt Campbell, but offense is more important right now. Give me a proven elite play caller on offense and let DC be the revolving door LSU has to deal with.

Fair point, but from a business perspective if he is the guy I’d bet revenue more than justifies going all in.
And Campbell’s buyout is only 4 million which is insignificant in the context of LSU making a hire.

I like the Larry Kehres coaching tree .
Kehres record makes Saban look middle of the road, even if it’s at a lower level. Winning is winning.

Campbell is a homerun hire...Guy would crush it with the talent you guys get at LSU.
You have to be a really bad coach to not win at LSU

In terms of pros and cons, the always loses a couple head scratchers is definitely a con. I think the no ties to the south thing is overblown. Matt Rhule had not so much as sniffed the south when he coached at Baylor and he parlayed that into an NFL head coaching job. Scott Frost had never coached within 500 miles of Florida when he got the UCF job and obviously that worked out well for him and UCF. I think a good coach, that is a good fit, and that can create the culture we need is paramount over ties to the geographic region.

He's at Iowa State. Is it really a head scratcher?
He's 15-2 in the month of October since 2017. He would be a home run.

I would take Campbell before Freeze and Kiffin. These guys are unproven as HC's, haven't won big games, or even made it to big games. Yet it seems 40% of TD wants these 2.

I agree with you that he would be a homerun. But if you had to pick one knock against him, it would be the fact that he inevitably loses at least one game a season that he is predicted to win comfortably. It may only be a result of the talent he has to work with, but it still happens. For my part, it's not a big enough knock to not hire him.

Probably because napier took him to the woodshed last year, with ISU's best team ever
