It wouldn’t be straight, and would require an asset from us of some sort I’m sure. But more curious on the overall feel there after Jake Fischer stated Zubac has been made available in trade. 5 years younger, $5 million less, signed for an extra year and much more of a defender.

He’s far from perfect, but provides that big center in the rotation at a smaller price point.

Could be something, could be nothing. Just a thought.

i was just coming to post Zubac being on the block news

I think Zubac is a much better fit and age range to match the squad.

I do not think we could trade because LA is clearing money to get someone else - Harden probably. We would need a third team involved, but i think he is gettable likely cheaper than you would think.

Yeah, I’ve been trying to sort what a structure could look like. Jonas to San Antonio still seems like one of the best possible fits and they have the space to make things work. Not sure if they would prefer Jonas or Zubac themselves.

so we think Zubac is better than JV, and we have to assume that the Clips think JV is so much better than Zubac that they would pay more on their tax bill to make this swap?

I think JV is better but it would work for us as Zubac is cheaper and signed for longer. Basically simplifying to say, I'd prefer 3 years of Zubac over 1 year of JVal. That's obviously with no other context involved.

But yea, to your point...I'm not sure the Clippers would want this deal. Though I guess while it'll cost them more money this season, it should have a net savings for the additional years if they were to let JVal expire and walk. But nonetheless, still not sure it entirely makes sense for LAC.

Again, this wouldn’t be a straight swap, as the Clippers are said to be moving off of Zubac and going to Plumlee. I am suggesting Jonas goes to a third team.

What about JV to SAS, we get a 15m TPE and fit Zubac into the TPE to save the clips money

I like Zubac and was confused as to why Griffin did not make sure he was in the AD trade (as the Lakers gave him away for a 2nd shortly before the deal). However, does he fit the transition offense we want to run?

Zubac would really hurt our spacing. At least Jonas is a threat to make a mid range jumper or 3

I just want to say that i LIKE JV but Zubac is a better fit for our defensive needs.

We do not need a 3pt shooting center, nor do we need points in the paint. JV is obviously the guy if we did.

We need rim protection. Zubac > JV and could even improve where as JV has hit his ceiling.

When Zion plays - offense is not an issue. We need to assume he plays because of the investment we made. .

He’s a weird guy to pin down. He has good stretches, but can also be unplayable at times.

I like him, he’s and incredible defender and rebounder when he’s on. I’d rather get a bit more for Jonas though

Zubac has no midrange or 3 point shot. He'd clog up the lane and be a terrible fit with Zion offensively. He'd be marginally better defensively as he's a good rim protector but sucks at switching and defending the perimeter (worse than JV).

I think Zubac makes a bit more sense, especially defensively especially if you stagger him and Zion (he's got to play with Jose and Dyson because of the lob threat in the PNR).

He's also cheaper, younger, and signed for longer.

I do think it would need to be a three-team deal with the foundation being

Pels get Zubac
Spurs get Jonas
Clips get Collins + picks

Would allow Pels to also grab Watford, Aaron Holiday

Cut Temple and trade Kira (maybe as part of the deal)

CJ / Jose / Holiday
Herb / Dyson / Hawkins
BI / Trey / Naji
Zion / Watford / EJ
Zubac / Nance / Karlo

Agreed. JV is better in a vacuum and arguably a wash when it comes to fit.

I'm not wanting to move JV just for the sake of a change. We've done that the first 3 years Griff was here(Favors, Adams and JV).

Unless it's a clear and obvious upgrade from JV, we should look for a cheap vet rim protector to rotate in at the 5 and run it back. I'm tired of the lateral moves just for the sake of making a move.

JV is a better shooter than a Zubac that is for sure, but as for as playing underneath Zubac is probably better physically. But yeah, the being younger, cheaper contract, and signed for longer than a year thing def works if that's the direction that they wanna go in.

This would be a move just to make a move. The Clips are looking to get rid of Zubac because he has the same defensive issues as JV and gives minimum on offense. Basically, Plumlee can do everything he does but cheaper. I’m all for moving JV if the fit is better, but I don’t see the benefit here.

Zubac is Wily Hernangómez with minutes

He is not a piece to elevate this roster
