As a GA Tech fan, I have always admired Kirby Smart...

I do not follow the NFL at all. I watch the Falcons and that's it. I don't even follow stats or records, etc so y'all don't come in here crushing me with my stupid question
Getting that out of the way... I am not saying there are rumors or anything like that or that Kirby would even think about trying an NFL HC position... but do you think Kirby could make it in the NFL as the Falcons Head Coach?
I really think Kirby could bring in an entire new fanbase to the Falcons
This is all hypothetical

Wouldn't surpise me if he was somewhat successful or flamed out. NFL is a different ballgame than college. It's more dependent on X/Os and the ability to match talent to your scheme, but your scheme has to be pretty good. But, even before NIL, you could kind of replace someone quickly if you felt they didn't fit. Harder to do that when the team is on the hook for the contract.

Kirby would be a horrific NFL HC because his entire championship strategy/history is to stack his roster with 1st rounders at every position and then have 2nd rounders as their backups.
It's the pre-NIL Saban strategy that worked like a machine when you were in the best recruiting footprint in the country and you weren't afraid to get dirtier than anyone else and pay players under the table.
Kirby also makes numerous absolute retarded in-game decisions all the time but used to get bailed out because he had such a massive talent advantage over almost all his opponents.
He runs his program the polar opposite of how you win in the NFL, where QB, scheme, elite drafting in lower rounds, and situational football are king because the talent is so close among all the teams.
He would be a disaster and is actually fading right now as a CFB coach.

I listen to his interviews all the time on Fox5 in Atlanta and 680 the fan and to me it just sounds like he is just sick and damn tired of this new age of college football. With the NIL and transfer portal and all of the bullshite that college football has turned into

I agree. He is not built for the NFL. He would be a failure and quickly. All of what you wrote is spot on.

Pretty dominant strategy

He just went 11-1 and won the SEC with an above average roster.

He’s too frantic and all over the place on the sideline

He could be frantic and fired up. His issue would be that his model of grinding opponents to defeat wouldn’t work. He would ride with a Trent Dilfer type at QB and be very conservative by NFL standards. He would be down 3 scores by halftime of most games. Completely different mindset to scheme NFL vs College. He would turn a Joe Burrow or Aaron Rodgers into a game manager.

Won back to back SEC Championships and is likely a missed o line block from being in the semis against Miami. But sure

Hell no. Kirby is a great program builder, talent stacker, motivator, and is driven by the love of his university and the hate of our rivals.
He is not really a great X and O guy. The parity of talent in the NFL would not be kind to Kirby

Awful move. He would be a horrible NFL coach. And he’s already starting to fade out as a college coach like others here have mentioned.
His two titles came right at the tail end of the pre-NIL era before college football became a landscape of multi-millionaire 1 year portal mercenaries.

MFer has won the SEC in back to back years and finished with a playoff bye. All with the youngest team in the SEC. Some of you folks are absolutely retarded

Prisoners of the moment.
I do however believe he should replace Bobo with a better playcaller.

MSB logic.
One horrible coached game = declining coach
But FR...Kirby wouldn't do well in NFL

In the end, 90% of it boils down to players. A number of coaches have won a Super Bowl with one franchise and been mediocre with another one.

No doubt. Unfortunately, he’s surrounded himself with yes men

Yeah, having a bunch of really good players is a horrible strategy for a coach. Why would any coach want that?

No. Kirby is a personnel guy/recruiter first, DC second.
When his teams have come up against equal talent with more creative offensive staffs, particularly passing offenses, they have struggled.
I feel like his schemes would be exploited at the NFL level, particularly because he won’t have a noted talent advantage in the front 7 like his best teams at UGA did.
