Valero shutting down its refinery
Phillips 66 shutting down a refinery as well

Estimating gas shortages and at least another $1 + to a gallon of gas

A 15 gallon fill up currently is around $75 there.

Estimates put this same fill up to be approximately $90 soon

Another example of brilliant leadership by Newsome.

He's been very quiet these past few weeks. Anyone else noticing that?

Not a problem. Gavin already penned a law to prevent the sale of combustion engines in a few years. Problem solved. Electrics for everyone!

That's about what I pay during summer and getting my gas at Costco. Right now I'm about $60. We have a Ford Edge.

If we lived in SoCal, the Bay or along the coast it would be in the range you have above.

I seriously budget $5 a gallon as an average throughout the year. This thread just reminded me that I need to fill up today. Wish me luck.

What's really funny about this is they put the cart before the horse.

They don't have the electricity to power all those electric cars they will need going forward, plus they have no way of build more nuclear plants in the state due to all their regulations.

I think the Phillips 66 one in Wilmington was pretty big 145,000 barrels/day. Valencia has a few other refineries but Valero is big.

Between the two closures, that's probably between 1/5 to 1/4 of California's refining capacity. It will be felt, and it will probably end up with more pressure for additional pipelines in the region.

Every time I visit and I have to refuel the rental car, I'm always blown away by the fuel prices in the bay area. And still almost no margin for refineries.

CA should find a way to use the sewage that floats from Mexico as a fuel source

He's strategizing on how to re-emerge as more moderate on these issues, and somehow shed the blame he rightfully deserves.

Remember Kamala Harris campaigning in 2020 on a national ban on fracking, then frantically crawfishing and retooling her message when she was inserted as the 2024 candidate and had to face swing voters in Pennsylvania?

Gavin's trying to figure out how to worm his way from these issues.

Newscum couldn't give two shits , his term is about up so he will run for President while blaming all of California's problems on Trump.

While the people suffer.

I had posted something about the Phillips66 shutting down... hadn't read about Valero.
Also, the main pipeline that was used to deliver the majority of the crude is closing its business. California is in a world of hurt.

I hate California and their politics, but to pretend like this is going to affect them in the long term is just naive.

Wealthy out-of-state retirees will singlehandedly keep CA’s economy afloat. Real estate in California is extremely desirable and will always keep the state a hot commodity for retirees.

I just did a search for estimated oil reserves off the coast of California through Duck Duck Go. Here are the results:

quote:

Estimated Oil Reserves Off the Coast of California
Current Production and Reserves
State Offshore Production: Approximately 37,400 barrels of oil per day.
Federal Offshore Production: Approximately 66,400 barrels of oil per day.
Total Offshore Contribution: Together, state and federal offshore tracts account for about 16% of California's total oil production.
Undiscovered Resources
Undiscovered Oil: Recent assessments estimate that there are about 61 million barrels of technically recoverable oil in the Los Angeles Basin.
Potential Resources: Estimates suggest that offshore central California may hold between 4 to 6 billion barrels of oil and 5 to 7 trillion cubic feet of gas.
Future Development Potential
Undeveloped Leases: Seven undeveloped leases are estimated to contain 1 billion barrels of recoverable oil and 500 billion cubic feet of recoverable gas.

I know not all oil is the same but we have the stuff in droves out here and the environmental wacko commies and their willing accomplices on the Left have shut it down. It seeps out of the ocean floor around Santa Barbara and gets into the sand at the beach. I love this state and what we have been blessed with but the Left has abused it for decades now we're getting ready to take on more pain that is/was completely avoidable. I don't blame corporations and small businesses for leaving. Sacramento has told them to leave and they have. I have no desire to leave. Our roots are here. Our business is here. Fresno is home.... and then there is the cesspool called Sacramento which shits all over us. The Bay Area and SoCal which do the same. Its frustrating. There's nothing we can do about the Leftists out here. They're a lost cause. We need the Right and the Middle to unite and vote these assholes out if we're ever going to get back to being the Golden State.

Chevron, an oil company with roots in California dating back to 1879, announced its relocation of headquarters from San Ramon to Houston, Texas, in August 2024, with the move expected to be completed over the next five years.
This decision followed years of regulatory and political tensions, including a lawsuit filed by California’s attorney general against Chevron and other major oil companies, alleging harm from their production and refining operations.
Chevron cited the need to co-locate with senior leaders and key business partners in Houston, which is considered the epicenter of the oil industry.

In addition to Chevron, Phillips 66 has also announced the closure of its Los Angeles refinery, a move that will reduce California’s refining capacity.
Valero has similarly announced the shutdown of its 170,000-barrel-per-day Benicia refinery by April 2026, further diminishing the state’s refining infrastructure.
These closures are part of a broader trend of oil companies reducing or exiting operations in California, driven by stringent environmental regulations, high operational costs, and state policies perceived as hostile to the fossil fuel industry.

They should buy the old Canal refinery in Church Point, La.

A fresh coat of paint and a few repairs and that thing can be humming along again.

Really? How many do you know that retired to Cali? Living out there for the last 40 years and riding it out to the end, I understand.

U-Haul receipts disagree.

I moved an at the time 80 yo uncle in '22 out of Sacramento and a 83 yo aunt out of Pasadena in '24.

Each had been out there since the 1980s.

It's been at least 15-20 years since I knew anyone who took a job, much less retired in California.

JD Vance and Marco Rubio

As time passes, this potential and plausible ticket is looking more and more likely and appealing.

Three years to go, but i think we're in decent shape at least with the recent pendulum swings. The Democratic Party is still polling at <20% favorably and a whopping 70% disapproval. They fricked the dog and are still tripling down. But I get it, because I know exactly what's happening here.
