I live in Ascension parish and have about 220 feet of ditch frontage that is holding too much water to get lawnmower into. It’s a pain to keep weedeating. What is a good weed killer I can spray to keep it down for awhile. I used roundup and it clearly did nothing

Probably not EPA approved, but diesel mixed with used oil will keep it dead for a very, very long time.

1 gallon of 30% vinegar, 1 cup salt, 1 Tablespoon dish soap (surfactant). The warmer the temperature, the quicker it will work.

I've used a cocktail of Roundup Pro Concentrate, Cheetah Pro, Bayer Bioadvanced 365 Weed & Grass Killer and Spectracide One-Shot Weed & Grass Killer and the vinegar/salt is much cheaper and kills everything

RM43 is the best option unless you can get whatever shite is they use on pipelines.

Paraquat I think.

Paraquat is restricted use. Can't get it (legally)without an applicators license. Glyphosate is still your best option. Whether you buy RM43, Roundup, Farmworks, or Cornerstone.
Nothing you spray down here thats available OTC is going to kill your ditch graveyard dead. Whenever it rains, you'l see new growth. Even cane fields get weeds and grass growing in them during the growing season.

Diesel 1/3 mix spray it a day or 2 before a good rain and it makes the kill line even

Going cause erosion of the ditch if you kill the grass. It’s supposed to be grass.

I f you are spraying a ditch that is mostly wet than you are probably dealing with a lot of aquatics. Round up won’t touch them. Depending on what you have, I would look at a tank mix of 5% round up and 2.5% 2-4d. Broad spectrum.

Cattails can be very difficult to control. In that case if you could get your hands on some imazythaper (Polaris). You would have to have or know someone with a pesticide license to purchase it as it is a restricted use herbicide.

If it holds water, I wouldn’t spray anything other than glyphosate because it is not toxic. Be very careful if you have the potential for runoff

3 oz Diquat per gallon of water. It’s for lily pads and duckweed but it’ll smoke anything green.

just leaving them alone is out of the question I’m guessing?

I’ve tried this and yields same results as using the tractor supply stuff. Maybe I’m not spraying enough. Also it didn’t seem to be a cheaper option for me.

I second this. Stopped spraying because of erosion and my ditches just got bigger.
