I personally don’t care much about how well the MBB program is doing.

I care much more about baseball and football. I’d like to give the rev share % and extra nil we give to MBB currently to Jay and the baseball team.

If we get a new coach I assume we will have to put up nil similar to this year if not more. Just curious how much we will ah e to commit and where it will come from.

Does Wade have a buy out? Would we keep current coach until we can get Wade for no buy out?

$5M but drops to $3M on April 1; so I would assume if we make that move it's on April 1

MBB has the potential to generate much more revenue with tv contracts. Right now we are the crappy team that has to go pay people in free agency to make it look attractive to recruits. It is what it is

This would be like a company choosing to decrease its investment in the 2nd highest profit product line in the company and allocate those funds to a product that only sells well in 2-3 states, and despite being the market leader in the industry still doesn't turn a profit.

Seems like a terrific business plan.

That is the popular sentiment around here, but it is in LSU’s best interest financially to be good at basketball.

I think the current set up is 15% of rev share (20.5M) goes to basketball, so $3M. It would be nice to get extra private $ to get us around $8-10M total for roster. Although hiring the right coach is the biggest priority

WW isn't coming back. Roster is our primary problem not coaching. We have a thin average to low average roster. One injury demonstrates lack of depth. Answer these days is money. Not Firing CMM. Not dreaming of WW. Roster money. New arena. New practice training facilities. A huge commitment. I doubt I will live to see it so get used to crap men's hoops under any coach.

These dudes took the short bus to school of "Blockbuster Management and Retardation". It was a great course.

Do people realize coaches are allowed to hustle, develop relationships with donors and generate excitement/raise funds for the program and their players to go far above what the University pays out in rev share? That's where the money is going to come from. Not whether LSU puts $2 million or $4 million or whatever into the basketball roster.

Why would Wade leave NC State for LSU?

True but still south of average in SEC not to mention PMAC sucks. Point is that we pay a premium to get players to LSU and have a below average wage roster fund. That is the giant problem. Coaching can be improved but won't change much given above. I'm not pro current coach. I'm realistic about what it will take to succeed in current structure. We don't have it and have shown zero commitment to getting it.

Guys if you hire a good coach the money is irrelevant. Because it will follow them here. That is how simple this is.

Look at Jay Johnson. LSU baseball is the best run operation in the entire State. He doesn't need LSU rev share money to win... Because he has built a program that will get its money from his donors. That is part of the job of the coach.

You just started a thread about firing the coach. Seems like you care.

Basketball TV contracts are through the conference, not the individual school. So your hypothesis is irrelevant.

LSU has been 5th or 6th in top 100 recruits among SEC teams since McMahon arrived. We’ve also had high ranking transfer classes so this argument that we’ve had basement talent just isn’t true

Considering the season could end 2-3 weeks before with a loss in the SEC Tournament, it would be incredibly shortsighted to keep McMahon on the payroll. It would be possible that most of the quality candidates would've moved on by that time. Imagine if LSU had waited 2-3 weeks after the season to fire Brian Kelly. We saw what happened with Penn State and Michigan.
