Axios is trying to say Trump is losing independents because of deportations.

President Trump's team recently reviewed private GOP polling that showed support for his immigration policies falling. The results, reflected in public surveys, bolstered internal concern about the administration's confrontational enforcement tactics.
Now, as the chaotic scenes from Minnesota play out around the clock on TV and social media, Axios has learned that some Trump advisers quietly are talking about "recalibrating" the White House's approach — though it's unclear what changes Trump would embrace, if any.

By the numbers: The internal GOP polling that alarmed some Trump insiders was completed at the end of December, days before an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Good in Minneapolis.
60% of independent voters and 58% of undecided voters said Trump was "too focused" on deporting illegal immigrants, the poll viewed by Trump's team found.
33% said Trump was primarily deporting law-abiding people, as opposed to criminals.
ICE is taking a reputational hit. Two public surveys released this week — one from CNN, another from YouGov — found that most Americans said the agency was making U.S. cities less safe.
Another poll done for the Associated Press after Good's death found that just 38% of Americans now approve of Trump's immigration policies.

bullshite! If he is losing any support, it's because ICE is playing too nice with these protesters.

step out of your circle and you will see this article is right. The only people cheering ice on are hard core maga.

SFP says the women in his wine & painting classes think deportations are bad and Trump is losing support.

And here we see the seeds of "muh fraud" being planted for the 2026 election season.
Not acknowledging the unpopularity of how Trump is using ICE to fight illegal immigration and figuring out a more rational, better way to go about it, is going to hurt the GOP and Trump politically. You can spin it by blaming the MSM or whatever boogeyman you want, but ignoring it will be fatal.

I'm not MAGA at all, and I'm not cheering on ICE. But I do support what they're doing.
It's the same thing Obama did, but Obama had the support (because that's (D)ifferent) of these sanctuary cities.
Only morons can't see what's really going on.

Why do you people think Trump got elected? This issue more than any other is what propelled him into the WH. I can assure you that most people are not ok with just allowing all these illegals to remain here.

Heres the thing. 40% of “independents” are hard core cheering this, 40% of them are hard core against it and 20% of them don’t actually give a shite one way or the other…but if you poll them they will give you a different answer depending on if they had their morning coffee and what song was on the radio. Those 20% of people are less likely to vote in a midterm and, if they do, it will be based on their pocketbook. Immigration will be a 3rd or 4th order issue for these people. For most people actually.

Unfortunately, a significant portion of the voting base ARE morons.
FWIW, I think the Administration is losing the PR war. When Kristi Noem lies --- "Good attacked several ICE agents while they were digging out of the snow" and "no ICE agents (referring to ALL agents, not Minneapolis) have made any mistakes" --- it undercuts the Administration's credibility as a whole.
Also, the objective facts show that the ICE agent acted properly and within the law. Why stiffle a formal investigation like is usually done in shootings by officers? It looks like the Administration is hiding something.

What is the more rational way to make people who dont want to leave go back to their country?
I would argue that this method is forced due to the non-enforcement of our existing immigration laws over the past 3 or 4 decades.
The time for a different method than ICE was in the 1990s. Now you have embedded, emboldened illegal aliens who feel like if they hold out long enough, this will pass. Maybe democrats should join in on the enforcement conversation instead of obstructing at every single opportunity.

I don't know if y'all have noticed, but the midterm propaganda machine for the left is in full swing.
There was a "poll" conducted by some group (likely leftist) that CNN was touting that 59% of people identify as leftist. Not Democrat, but hard left. And they were going on and on about how the Clinton Democrats only represented 20% of the party, meanwhile most of America was more aligned with the leftists.
Democrats don't have a prayer this midterm, outside of the leftist fraud strongholds. Anywhere with moderately honest elections, they will get worked.

My post from another thread:
quote:
The issue isn't enforcing federal law. It's how they're trying to enforce federal law.
The polling was lukewarm and seems to be cratering after this shooting. The public doesn't seem to be responding positively to how the admin is going about enforcing this issue. And illegal immigration was a big point of support for Trump in 2024.

Are you suggesting the average voter doesn’t want immigration enforced? Since the obvious answer is no, how exactly do you suggest that happens without force? Let me guess, it’s too hard so we should just stop. The manginas on you people are insufferable. You should consider moving to Canada or New Zealand to find supportive beta males

Axios would be lying... again.

You base this on what? CNN reporting. Your echo chamber is not indicative of normal everyday people.
Secondly, this statement.
quote:
The issue isn't enforcing federal law. It's how they're trying to enforce federal law.
Is the biggest bunch of horseshite by you TDS and leftists. You 100% have an issue with enforcing the law. You are simply moving the goalposts because public sentiment disagrees with you. Thus the reason the following paragraph you posted
quote:

was made. To divert, gaslight, and propagandize people here.

What you and someone else consider “rational” is extremely subjective, so why don’t you quit saying that bullshite?
I think the rational approach is to send in the national guard to escort ICE to rip every mother fricker from their house and deport them that is in this country ILLEGALLY. Anything less I would consider irrational

He doesn’t have an answer because he doesn’t support but likes to come up with excuses as to why he doesn’t right now but deep down he really wants to lol

He probably is. Retards like Joe Rogan are saying he lied because he was only going after criminals and now he's deporting everyone. He even called it scary what ICE is doing. These are emotional retards and doesn't mean we change our actions because of them.

Watch the Megyn Kelly show. A you gov poll it's saying Trump is losing favor because of Minnesota and Venezuela. That CNN guy pollster that regretfully announces when Trumps doing excellent has shown he has dived in the polls.
The media narrative is working. It is just like Russia Russia Russia all over again. The most hideous and Vvle corruption of money laundering in Minnesota isn't even being talked about anymore.

Stephen Miller doesn't know about chisels, only hammers. 2 years with a GOP controlled Congress means that every campaign goal could have been achieved with legislation, but instead trying to force a full term worth of goals in 1 month with EO's is coming back to bite them.
I want the system broken down and rebuilt, but the way to make it stick is through legislation with supplements in EO's.
