Just watched Cool Runnings tonight with family and will watch Miracle later this week. Athletic family love watching movies about sports, but great to see these 2 that have such wonderful meaning behind them.

Kids are 11 and 7. We watched both these movies in the past, but man they loved it tonight.

Any other Winter Olympic stories to watch?

I remember seeing a movie about Eddie the Eagle - some crazy British dude who decided he wanted to be ski jumper and challenge the Flying Finn in 1988.

There's a movie called Olympic Dreams starring Nick Kroll as a dentist that falls in love with a cross country skier at the Olympics village. I've never actually seen it but it's a romcom set at the winter Olympics.

A guy from the New Orleans NBC channel is there covering the games. Might be a good follow on X.

Watched the new Netflix doc, Miracle, The Boys of '80 last night.

I was 9 when it happened. And my Lord, it was one of the most glorious things ever. Hockey meant nothing to anyone here in Texas as a kid. But the Olympics? We didn't miss a telecast in Winter or Summer. It was a vibe and pride that's kind of hard to explain. Wish it were the same today.

The thing many people today couldn't comprehend is that the game shown on TV was a tape delay. One of the biggest upsets in American sports history occurred and much of the country had no idea until they watched it later that night. That would be almost impossible today.

It was the cold war. The USA beating the USSR in anything was a big deal. Particularly in an event the USSR was supposed to dominate. A bunch of US amateurs beating the big red machine was an easy story for the nation to gravitate to...even if they knew of or cared little about ice hockey.
