I am sure this happening almost immediately after the government started reforming EBT/SNAP benefits is just a coincidence

As of late 2025/early 2026, 18 states have received USDA waivers to restrict junk food purchases with SNAP, including Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Colorado, Florida, West Virginia, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Utah, Hawaii, Missouri, North Dakota, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee, prohibiting items like soda, candy, energy drinks, and certain prepared foods, with restrictions rolling out through 2026.

Pepsico also announces they are rolling out simpler ingredients and healthier options like Doritos Protein, alongside classic flavors. Probably doing that so the items will still qualify for SNAP

80% of the “gdp” is government spending. The only people that drink cokes and eat chips are people on food stamps because a bag of chips is too expensive for a taxpayer to buy now

What are yalls favorite songs to sing while you pick taxes on the governmentation

Go look up the coca cola files.
Heavy lobbying for food stamps approval.

SNAP is out of control and full of fraud. Needs to be cut completely and start over under strict control to issue only to those who truly need it.

Absolutely. It was to the point where the only people who could afford it were SNAPpers.

This. The people who would roll through stores with several bags or variety pack boxes of chips -- because it was covered by SNAP -- that consumer demand drove up the prices for the people paying with their own debit cards or cash who just wanted to get one bag of Doritos or Fritos, etc.

It’s almost as if govt subsidies cause inflationary prices

Fortunately this is clearly the only industry that this has happened to, and we haven't seen drastic price increases for industries where mass amounts of government money had been freed up for consumers to use.

Those food prices rose as EBT / SNAP spending went down. I posted the numbers and sources on that in the past, I believe. Also, the information in that tweet isn't really accurate. A lot of states that got the waiver have either abandoned or delayed their restrictions. Lobbying from these food companies and grocery chains is going to be heavy pressure, for sure.

I'm taking a guess that the restrictions will start getting amended, maybe to allow chips if they're made with beef tallow, or soda if it's zero sugar.

As I've said before, these restrictions will do nothing to improve the nation's health. They will cost Republicans some votes, however. The other thing they're going to do is increase demand for milk, bags of sugar, meat, cheese, and other staples, as people buy other items and look to figure out how to still get a sugar fix. It'll be interesting to see what happens to prices in these other categories.

Also, I'm sure people will buy some steaks with an EBT card so they can trade them for packs of soda or candy. This is going to drive up the price of steak and other meat, and if they are trading them, then the price of candy and so forth won't move. Demand will still hold steady. We all know non-EBT people will buy $5 of candy and trade it for $7 of steak. This imbalance will drive the price up for unrestricted items. The people hurt the most will be those just over the threshold for receiving SNAP.

Last time I looked, about 15% of Republican voters are in a household with people that are or have been on SNAP.
It's about the same percentage for Independents and about 7 points higher for Democrats.
Democrats will message that they'll abolish the restrictions while Republicans are putting in restrictions. The restrictions won't gain votes. They'll only lose votes. And campaign donations. We'll see if that has any effect leading to the midterms.

We don't really have snack foods and drinks at the house. It's like 7.99 for a 12 pack. I think krorger had them on sale this past weekend buy 3 and get 1 free but that's expensive as shite. Even the 2 liters they has on sale for 3.39. I thought I remembered buying them 2 for 3 or something like that but it's been a while

One thing the freaking Somalis have going for them is their go to snack is bananas and rice, which are still SNAP eligible.
