Also says that Paramount promises HBO will continue to "operate with independence."

quote:

Paramount Skydance plans to combine Paramount+ and HBO Max into one streaming service, upon the completion of the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery.

However, Paramount will want HBO, the brand, to “operate with independence.”

“As we said, we do plan to put the two services together, which today gives us a little over 200 million direct to consumer subscribers,” Paramount CEO David Ellison said during an investor call breaking down the details of the planned merger Monday. “We think that really positions us to compete with the leaders in the space At Paramount, by the middle of this year, we’ll have completed the consolidation of our three services under one unified stack, and you can see us taking a similar approach to this platform going forward. And we think the combined offering, and given the amount of content and what we can do from the tech side, really will put us in a position to be able to compete with the most scaled players in DTC.”

Paramount Skydance is so embroiled in politics that it’s hard to know what it will do.

So I’ll continue to get HBO Max for free with my AT&T Fiber Internet?

LOL, I doubt that those of us enjoying "free" Max through our providers will continue to do so.

I get HBO Max for free with my AT&T cell phone plan. I wonder what this means for me.

ETA: ah, we have similar concerns lol

I suspect it will continue for now. They will most likely begin the process with maintaining both platforms but now offering a bundle. Then after a while, you will be able to use one platform to access both libraries. Then they will eventually shutdown one of the platforms.

When they start the cross-platform conversions, you may begin to see notices about changes to your free HBO Max plans.

During this time, you will also begin to see AT&T make adjustments to their various fiber plans. Most likely with the ultimate plan of doing away with the free HBO options or increasing the costs of the plans to compensate for their additional costs. Your plan may be protected as long as you do not make any changes, or the changes they make do not make your plan useless forcing you into a new plan.

*I have no insight to the operations of these networks or phones; I just saw similar evolutions with the free Disney+/Hulu/ESPN through certain Verizon plans. I was, and still am, locked in for all 3 for free through my plan, but we were getting those notices on my wife's plans, and they flat out told me the second I change plans I lose my free Disney+/Hulu/ESPN

Me to. I'm hoping I will be able to drop one and get them both combined for the price of one. Of course then again I also hope a million bucks will fall from the sky right into my lap which is probably just as likely

Or on the flipside, will I still get free Paramount+/HBO whatever via Walmart+ via American Express Platinum credit...

It'll happen, but it will be in quarters. Good news is, your wife will have to drag it all to the bank to spend your money.

Been awhile since I had Paramount, what is everyone currently watching on it?

It might mean you should drop both and possibly get a better deal on both.

Hopefully they keep the HBO Max format because Paramount + is terrible.

I get HBO Max, along with Hulu and Disney+ free with my Amex Platinum. Was already paying for Paramount+ prior to the Walmart+ deal I also got with Amex which gives either Paramount+ or Peacock free, so I chose Peacock.

Wonder if this will impact this Amex offering? That just means I won't have to pay for Paramount+ anymore even though I'd gladly pay a full year upfront for their EFL Championship coverage.

Meanwhile, Disney will still be sucking around trying to figure out how to authenticate YoutubeTV subscribers on their ESPN Unlimited app.
