By not being one of the 4 worst 3rd place teams. Is what it is..

Would be catastrophic to not even get out of a group when 8 3rd place teams can. Really can see this shaking out with a battle between us and Paraguay to not be 4th though.

Türkiye
USA
Australia
Paraguay

I think all from 2nd-4th could end up level on points.

I’ve come to believe that getting eliminated in the group stage is very much a possibility.

Not being able to get out of group would be highly embarrassing.

Canada and Mexico also looking better in their recent friendlies, though Canada has two draws with teams way below the caliber of Belgium and Portugal.

Still, we look the worst of the 3 hosts, and that's a shame.

This shouldn't be the standard, not now and not in a home World Cup

Not saying it should be or is the standard. I’m saying that we’re so bad that the only reason we likely even progress out of the group this WC is because of the tournament’s expansion.

That’s really bad.

It's far more likely than not that we get out, but hardly impossible. We're limping in. Can you point to any position group and say "at least we're really solid here"? I can't. We used to be the team that could steal a point (or 3), but now we're the team that could easily drop them. We could easily draw all 3

It's wild that we've played all 3 opponents at near full strength in the last 10 months, but each game ended with a 1 goal margin. We only really controlled 1 (AUS)

The scenario that kicks us out is 1W/1D/1L (with a bad loss to GD) or 3D, while the rest of the group rock-paper-scissors 3 point results

"Getting out of the group" as a 3rd place team is near-certain death in the R32. That's equivalent to not getting out of the group in the old 32-team format

The fact that we're even having this discussion after all the buildup with this generation and our cup is stupid depressing

Depressing, but reality. We aren’t beating any r32 opponent in my opinion.

This is why I hated the decision to schedule games against Belgium and Portugal as our final games before June.

It lowers morale and makes people think we are worse than we actually are.

I’m sure the team doesn’t respond in quite the same way, but it’s probably somewhat similar.

FWIW if we get second place, we will play the runner up for Group G.

This is a very weak group. Belgium will win. The other teams are Egypt, New Zealand, and……Iran.

USSF fricked us when they retained Berhaltner after the suspension. You don't kick the can down the road when you are HOSTING a world cup.

I just want to go ahead and bring everyone down to earth here, there is a more than decent chance we get knocked out of the group stage. Turkey is good.

Agreed that Turkey is a good side, but Turkey looked pretty bad against a sub-par Kosovo team.

Also 2.67 teams are making it out of each group, and if we finish 2nd in this group, our round of 32 match will be against sub-par opposition.

We played two Quarterfinal-type opponents this week.

Never forget the Muslim terrorist attacks against the Undertaker by Muhammad Hassan and Daivari.

You can only drop points when you expect to get them… and only steal points when you don’t expect to get them.

Patrick Agyemang is done. Pulisic ice cold. MLS heavy. Not promising.

Turkey is historically hit or miss at these tournaments. Australia kinda too. Us too. shite anything can happen here

That said, it is kind of crazy that we had higher hopes in years past with just MLS players than now with legit 2nd or 3rd tier European players. Doesn't make any sense.

The expanded field is watered down anyway

Round of 16 is the standard from now on even with this transformers line up of random MLS players in there because the player pool is below par.
