Pitching could be interesting next year

I'm curious who we'll still have on the team, as a lot of the pitchers could return next year if they want. It's hard to say who will be back, vs who enters the draft, hits the portal, or is essentially processed.
What's interesting is that Evans, Schmitt, and Moore could all return next year and in all likelihood should be back.
Sheerin is probably the only one we'll lose to the draft, and that's not guaranteed, especially if we give him a chance to start.
We should return Paz and Ricken as talented, second year players.
Rizzy, Guidry, and Garcia should return as experienced and talented relievers.
Williams, Plog, and Lach should all be returning FWIW. Plog did well for a stretch and Williams had a great Freshman season.
If Jay can get a good starter from the portal like he has in the past (like Eyenson, Jump, Holman, etc.), we could have a solid weekend and midweek group of starters and still a solid bullpen... in theory.

Moore is going to draft unless he wants to forfeit all negotiating power for some reason
He isnt some very high draft pick but still would sign for more this year than no leverage next year

I look forward to another off-season of pumping up Guidry

True. But the pitch forks are out for Jay. The masses are ready to fire him. You’ll be squarely roasted

We have a lot of talented arms.
Regardless of who is on the mound, we have to be better at not giving up walks in bunches. We can’t have games that have 10+ free passes and expect to win.

I’ll be shocked if Rizzy is still here next year. I really hope Paz and Ricken don’t transfer out. Sheerin is probably gone.
Schmidt
Evans
Paz
Cooper Williams
Rickens

That’s a good core of pitchers. We need to give them a dependable catcher, defense and run support.

I don’t see a single position or player cemented for next year’s team at this time. No eligible returning player has performed to their full potential this season as of today, IMO.
Understanding CJJ’s frustrations during Saturday night’s post game presser, it is a double edged sword. You can’t afford to develop players from within the program and you can’t afford to miss on portal guys like we did this season.

You can't be serious.

what position players do you see as cemented?
Braun will likely be on the field somewhere, whether it is 1st base or not, I am not certain.
Bide/Serna behind the plate is likely, but I would not be surprised to see one of them transfer out.
the other 7 positions are completely wide open.
3rd- could be pearson, but I think we can do a lot better.
SS-gone,
2nd- we have a few guys, but so far, all of them have sucked at times.
OF- all 3 gone...

How many years have you spent coaching baseball?

I don’t even want Rizy back. He’s been atrocious this year.

I would not be surprised if Bide or Serna decided to transfer to avoid competition.
Braun will be on the field, I don't know if that will be at 1st, but could be.
Pearson- meh... he is not great in the field or at the plate. maybe he improves.. maybe he gets beat out.

Bide thought he was going to be catcher #1 this year, it seems that Serna has passed him on the depth chart. Surely, that is not written in stone, but I am sure both want to be THE guy...
I hope we keep both of them, because i think both are talented and can do very well next season.

Yeah, I don’t want to lose either one
Bide has the talent, he’s just having a rough season & Serna is only going to get better with experience

Rizy needs to be processed. He is emblematic of the deep rooted issues this team has.

Pearson, Braun, Serna, Arambide. So basically everybody who can return that has been pretty much an every day starter recently.

JJ has rarely had a catcher catch every game. You don't want that if you are a coach or a player. Hernandez ended up catching the bulk last year, but that was out of necessity. Losing either one would be a big blow.

I'm not grading the catchers nearly as hard as some others here. It's literally spinning a roulette wheel every time a pitch is called. The pitchers have been so bad that they're pretty much guessing on where the ball will be every time it's thrown.
Arrambide made a lot of defensive strides down the stretch last year when he was catching Eyanson every week. Eyanson could locate. He knew the ball was going to be somewhere between exactly and reasonably close to where it was called. That allowed every other aspect of being behind the plate to improve for him.

That's also the core of the power production for next year. So it's not something that needs to be shopped for in the portal.
