So you waited an hour with a party of 8 to eat at a place whose menu mostly consists of burgers?

That was my first thought as well. Who waits for that kind of food to begin with? I love burgers as much as anyone, but I'm not waiting an hour with a party of 8 on a peak night to eat a freakin burger.

I'm so confused by the choice. You decided to bring 8 people to a restaurant which does not take reservations and does not have an extensive menu (sounds like mostly sandwiches) on a Saturday night at prime time and then you choose to "cuss out" a hostess who likely has zero idea of what's left to be served because some items were unavailable on the menu by the time you were seated.

While I think it's a good idea for a manager in this situation to advise waiting customers that the menu would be limited upon seating, but invite them to stay if they wish, I would be looking at my own decision to select the restaurant in the first place.

I'd love to know what was so good about this restaurant that made it worth the wait for the bit of offerings you described.

Hell, they arrived at the tail end of prime time. They aren't even getting seated until almost 9:00. Also, why would he think the hostess has any idea what they've run out of? It is almost 9:00, maybe they just sold out of a bunch of stuff through the course of the night. That isn't a normal thing for the hostess to know what the kitchen has run out of.

Long story short, OP did a shitty thing.

There it is. The real reason many are criticizing.

No, it's because you came on here to brag about a huge douchebag move.

you spineless douchebag. You just had to voice your displeasure and didn't have the balls to find the manager (like every normal human being would do) so you chose to berate a young girl.

holy shite dude.

Isn't a hostess job just to seat you? why would they know about food outages?

Bet they've stiffed a tip. Talked to a manager. Asked for something to be comped

Talking to a manager is the way to go about any issue in a restaurant. No issue with that if you can be mature, unlike OP

So many people who think so highly of themselves when they’re in a restaurant because they pay the bill and the restaurant caters to them. It’s the only time people like OP will ever feel like they’re in a position of authority. Here’s a tip, handle it in a mature way and treat those people with respect. You aren’t special and your social status isn’t elevated by being a customer, nor are those people below you because they have a job serving food to people like you. They may not retaliate towards you for being a dick, but eventually karma will come around

I’ve never seen this board unite against someone as I have in this thread. It’s incredible and well deserved.

OP is a trashy piece of shite and I hope the back spits in his food every time he dines out.

On the way out, I had to stop by to speak with the hostess. When we put our name on the list, and proceeded to wait an hour for a table, not once did she mention they were out of anything. Like, maybe it's just me, but it seems that telling a party of 8 that's about to wait an hour for a table that you're out of several main menu items is, I don't know, kind of her job?

Holy shite. No, it isn't the Hostess' job to know if they are out of certain food items. Unless the place knew they were gonna be out for the entire evening. Even then, it's on the waiter/waitress to let your table know that they are out of whatever item/items.

The job of a hostess is to seat customers at tables and keep a running list of what tables are open, about to open, and try and seat people to their preferred spot (ie booth or table) and make sure one or two servers aren't getting all the bigger parties (bigger tips) and others arent getting 2 or 4 tops all night.

The only back of house stuff your hostess should concern themselves with is if there is "specials" board listing the daily/weekly specials. Then someone from management of back of house should inform hostess that the advertised special is no more. That's it.

You were a dick to that poor girl when your anger should have been directed at management and/or wait staff.
