Damn! I haven’t thought about that place in a long time. I don’t remember the details but one day a week they had some kind of half off deal or something like that.
I took my parents there and they thought it was the best place ever. Definitely an older crowd.

Pretty sure it’s been closed for about 15 years.

yeah that was an old person restaurant. been gone probably since Katrina or shortly thereafter. had my rehearsal dinner there. That was the same family that ran Frank's Steakhouse on Freret decades ago.

True story--i know the attorneys who have an office next to where barreca's was. when they demolished it, there were about a million rats that ran out

Even the bread in there was from 1935…

I have always loved the "geezer eats" places, in BR most restaurants are staffed by college aged kids, I like a grouchy old fart with a rag on his arm. A few years ago, I ran into a waiter who knew my dad, he was over 80 and more of a historian than a waiter.

Geezer eats are where it's fun to engage with the server, maybe see the friends you have left and have great food.

Longer. I'm not sure it ever came back after Katrina. I think the moved to parties only.

I am an old person.
I have liked almost all of these places and don't get the contempt, at all.

Agreed. I was there for lunch last week with my 65 year old uncle. I asked him how it felt to be the second youngest person in the room. If this is Mandina's customer base they will be Ain't There No More in five years.

The most slept on spot in south Louisiana. Shrimp Remoulade is off the chain.

I pass it every day. It’s had a For Sale sign on it for as long as I can remember. Extremely prime real estate for being out of production.

I didn’t see these mentioned: R&O’s, The Galley, Porter & Luke’s.

I don't consider Casamento's an "old people" restaurant. its old school but not an old people place like Mandina's or fury's and so on

A more controversial question for this board would be New Orleans restaurants that Metairie/Kenner people love

Good question.

90 % of the places mentioned in this thread are not even in New Orleans.

Smiley’s has an early bird special which was solid. Our first few years of marriage we would love to go there and laugh about the fact that it was usually packed with folks on social security. But the food was great!
Many bridal parties in the back room as well
