I never really understood it, but it happens to a lot of tour pros, and I know a few older guys who have mentioned putting his harder for them now. Putting seems like one of those things that make it easier with age as you can experience, so why do people get worse?

I'd imagine diminishing eyesight might be a culprit...

It's called the Yips.

Have you never noticed that the older people get the more they shake. In many cases, it may not even be visible but it's there. I'm 51 and I can already feel that I don't have the same type of control over my body that I had in my 20's. Again, it's nothing noticeable but it's there.

Putting is extremely precise and requires an extreme amount of body control. ANYTHING that may interfere with that control will affect your putting.

Eyesight and tremors.

What's even more baffling is why the women can't putt as well.

My putting has only improved although I’m only in my 30’s. When I was younger my putting was my worst area of my game.

The older you are the more missed putts you've seen.

In all seriousness, I'm 73 and since changing my grip and setup about 7 years ago I've gone from average-at-best putting to really good putting, even under pressure. So I don't know that there's any science involved there.

I’m not considering 30’s as older

Tiger Woods talked about it earlier this year. He got a longer putter because he couldn't bend as much which was affecting his putting.

He's not the age range you're talking about, but his back could probably be considered much older.

I have read Eric Kaplan's book on putting (Putting: The Four Secret Body Locks) and it improved my putting greatly. It was a method he developed to help people with Parkinson's disease. It helps quiet the hands and wrist which I had been having issues with. He also take credit for helping Bernard Langer get over the yips.

I think it's a combination of vision & nerves deteriorating. I'm 73 & speak from experience.

Tremors. Drink like Rocco did and they go away. Drink even more like Rocco eventually did and they become a bigger problem.
