With that mileage and that race time sub 20 will be a cakewalk for you. Just curious what are your long run/easy run paces? Also, how old are you? I have a couple of 5ks coming up trying to see if i can still go sub 20 but really wondering if sub 19 is possible at some point for me.

Eyeing the Mardi Gras 5k in front of Lakeside 2/8. Gotta clear it with the Mrs first.
Just asked the wife if she wants to "bring our son to Family Gras in Metairie." Oh whoops there's a 5k too! How convenient!

I’m 36. Long/easy runs usually between 8:45 and 9:15 per mile. If it’s cool out, I’m usually in the mid to high 130s for heart rate on those runs. About 10bpm higher if it’s warm.

10 on trails yesterday, 7 street in this wonderful cold rain today, 4 very easy tomorrow. First double digit mile run since my ITB issue last year. Hopefully by July that long run is inching closer to 20, going to give a 50k another shot in October but actually train for it instead of winging it this time. The injury thing absolutely sucks, don't want to do that again.

What trail shoes is everyone wearing? Just ordered another pair of Vivo trail shoes.

Altra exp wild. So far 60+ miles and no blisters or issues. I use fwd exp flow for training and road and wild for trails.

I've been wearing saucony peregrine but have been asking around as well. Borrowed a pair of Salomons from a buddy and put a few miles on them. Lacing system was fantastic and it had much more grip on wet rocks than the peregrines did.

8m @ 11:12 pace run walk.
34 degrees with a 10-15mph wind and my blistering speed made it feel fridged!!!

Have you used the Lome Peak, Timp or Olympus to compare to.
How's the grip. My only ding on Altra is they aren't as grippy on rocky ground than some others are.

if you're buying saucony, i think the xodus ultra is the superior shoe. i ran a pretty rugged 100 in them a few years ago, no issues with grip. that was before they switch to vibram rubber.

Damn, almost got some when they were on a great sale a few months ago, but I didn't need any. I have tried the Peregrine, those are OK but I don't enjoy running in them. I also have Endorphin Edge, but those have been meh, not surprised they stopped making that model.
I do need another trail one now for wetter days and general hiking.

I have a pair of lone peaks that I wear as a casual shoe, I tried a pair of Olympus to run in but the zero drop hurt my Achilles so i returned them after one or two runs.

Nice 3.5 miles this morning at 15 degrees. Roads were mostly clear and safe in terms of ice but I had to finagle over and through some fallen tree mess in the cut through between neighborhoods. To me nothing is better than a freezing run when I manage to wear the right clothes and I'm not sweating or cold. Sometimes it's hard to get that right when wind is bad, but it was calm today.

I've got a trail run Saturday and it looks like it's going to be around 18-20 with 20 mph winds, around a lake on top of that. Man I'm cold if its below 50 so it looks like the balaclava is going to get dusted off lol.

3.5 this morning, a bit more wind than Wednesday but not bad. Ran past a bunch of deer in a yard, their eyes glowing back at me from my headlight, but I was within 12 feet of them and they just don't care. Where was this during hunting season?

Pedro or anybody else who ran/knows track... What is the prep the week before a meet look like? Do you taper for a 1600/800 like you would a 5k or longer race? When should your last speed workout be, rest day etc...
