Divinity was actually rated the number 1 OLB on 247. He was a 5 star. Other sites weren’t as high on him so his composite was a high 4 star. Grant Delpit spent majority of his senior year as a 5 star recruit, when the final rankings posted he was the number 4 safety in the country finished just outside of 5 star status. No fault of his own only 32 5 stars to go around. Just shows you when you are talking about high 4 stars and 5 stars you are really splitting hairs and a lot of times guys get pushed down or up based of bias to certain teams they commit to.

Consensus is such a dumb word, a kids only a five star if people's opinions average them out to be. Might as well make it where 5 stars are only kids that are unanimously considered 5 star guys. Will Campbell and Harold Perkins of 2022 nor are Shelton Sampson or Jalen Brown aren't 5 stars either in every recruiting service. Who gives a frick? If 1 major recruiting service thinks a kid is a 5 star and 2 or 3 thinks they are high 4 borderline 5 stars who cares. It's still a 5 star player.

Grant delpit was still rated as a 5 star by at least 1 site in the final rankings.

Yea, they also have about 300,000 2-0 star senior players per year. Only 19% of drafted players happen to be in that 300,000.
259 draft picks per year at 19% of picks on average being 0-2 star players. That's puts us at 49 draft picks per year being 0-2 star players. Or in other words 0.00016% of 0-2 star players get drafted... 1 in 6000 players being drafted are not good odds.

I think this argument has been beaten to death. Yes, star rankings absolutely matter when it comes to the talent level on your team. On an individual basis, when comparing a 3 star to a 4 star of 4 star to a 5, there might not be a huge difference. However when the bulk of your team is 4 and 5 stars, you tend to have a much better team than one loaded with 3 stars.

he teams with the most 5 stars usually win the championships. Just a fact.
Is that true? I don't know I have ever seen the breakdown. But Saban usually has that distinction so It probably holds true.
That being said, the people that say stars mean nothing are either not facing reality of just plain stupid. Stars matter, they may only be part of the picture, but they matter.

I love this stupid shite. We’re about to sign a 5 star, which people have been complaining about not landing, and someone posts that it’s better to have 3 star hard workers. When, in fact, we have several committed. Just mind numbing.

I'm sure this is true of every fan base but it sure seems like LSU have got the whiniest fan base on the planet at times.

Them high three star ,four star athletes who are very smart will play like a five stars in live action, And usually have the longer football playing career
Individual player rankings are always debatable but signing the #1 Class multiple times in a 4 yr span is pretty much a lock on a NC in the following 2-3 yrs.
In God We Trust but all others bring data...

I posted this analogy a few years back, but it will always be true.
Pretend each school gets 25 shots on a basketball court that represents the 25 guys they sign for each class.
With each 5 star you sign, you shoot a layup. Each 4 star is a free throw, each 3 star is a 3 point shot. 2 stars and below are shots from half court.
Now conceivably, syracluse can beat LSU by taking 24 or 25 shots from 3 point or half court, while LSU will shoot close to half free throws or layups, and almost all remaining shots from the 3 point line, but would you bet on the shooter with the tougher shots? Especially if they are close to each other in overall shooting ability? (Keep in mind both LSU and syracluse have d-1 coaching staffs, so they are arguably close to each other in the coaching realm).
It makes it a lot more difficult (close to impossible) when all you get are the big boy's scraps, and then you have to develop them into a cohesive unit when they are by and large lacking the natural talent of the top school's signees.

I don’t care what their star rankings are as long as they don’t say anything liberal

If we went by stars we would have never gotten honey badger, Justin Jefferson type guys.
Tyrann Mathieu also graduated high school before 24/7 Sports even started so that argument isnt 1005 accurate. This online recruiting/scouting/reporting industry is relatively new and growing so most of your accurate data is going to be based off the last 6-7 years. Alot the data from before has been updated relatively recently ie honey badger's profile being updated to a 4* ranking back in 2017 when he graduated high school in 2010.

his dude's data states the percent of players drafted by star ranking:
5 star: 57%
4 star: 19%
3 star: 5%
Just want to point out that your statement reads like 57 percent of players drafted are 5* players when the data shows 57 percent of 5* players get drafted. The majority of players drafted are not 5* players simply because of how few there are.
Posted on 7/8/22 at 2:14 pm to broadcaster
You always want 5* players, there is a reason why they have that rating. But you are right that it isn't the end of the world to get 4* and 3* players. The staff just has to do more work to evaluate which players are being undervalued.

What I will say about the 3 star early gets is this— under the 2 previous regimes how many times were we holding a spot for the 5 star, slow-playing the 3 star, and on signing day, ended with neither?
Of course we want the 5 stars. With an unlimited signing class take everyone— we have a way to go before 85 is in sight.
