They’ve signed a couple and I don’t know how many snaps they’ve played. But, other than the JC one and Sprinkle (who I can find almost no info about), the others are Freshmen and there’s slim pickings in the portal for some reason.
I hope some grad transfers or Seniors enter the portal before it closes to account for any busts, need for development, or injuries

OL retention was important because OL is never heavy pickings in the portal. I fear this is just going to be a problem for us this year that Lane's going to have to scheme around. Hopefully some guys drop in the portal soon. We really needed to get Adams and Curne back based on what we snagged in the portal. Moore was our best OL retained him but we kept our worst one in Davis. At least with Davis he has the athletic attributes he just needs coaching.

Not panic time yet still time left. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little worried here right now though. Some of the guys needed to go but you couldn't let all the lineman LSU did hit the portal. Adams was more than adequate enough and Curne had lots of potential.

Saw Bama is interested in OT from ULM who’s in the portal. Might be worth a look.

Hopefully we can pick up with 2-3 more and roll with what we have.

agree, even if they were terrible this year, maybe in a new scheme, with new coaches, maybe they could have gotten something out of those guys... they clearly have enough there that some other major SEC schools signed a majority of them

But...in 2022, when we started 2 Freshmen at OT for the majority of the season, they didn't have any snaps. Not to say these guys will be like those players, but its not always about the number of snaps a guy has played. They have to be developed, they have the to be prepared, they have to learn how to communicate. All of those qualities lacked the past two years.

I’m really hoping that Davis suffered because of Brad and that he’ll become what we thought he would be.

This new OL coach will have his work cut out for him. The previous regime nuked that entire room and didn’t develop a soul. We’ve seen Lane do more with less and he’ll have to do that again this season.

I want some 23 year old corn fed midwesterners with too many consonants in their names.

The major problem with OL right now was:

1.) OL never has a plethora of big names hitting portal
2.) EVERYONE needs OL it's probably the most sought position in the portal outside QB
3.) Teams spend to keep their star OL because they're so hard to find/develop
4.) LSU lost nearly their entire 2 deep on OL

Not recipes for success there so it was only natural you were going to have lots of turnover. They still need a few guaranteed starters at least. It put us in an odd position because while we have money to spend, we also have to build an entire roster with the departures. Everyone wants OL so I'd imagine the bidding costs are too high as well in comparison.

Curne, Echols, Adams, and Williams will be good players with better coaching and scheme. I'm convinced of it.

Wish we had kept them.

That's the 4 I wish we retained. The rest could go outside obviously Moore.

I like the OP phrase "slim pickings in the transfer portal."

That's clever.

These are in the portal and not landed anywhere yet:

OL Ethan Calloway
OL Tyler Miller

Yeah, but those kind of Freshmen on the OL are not ideal. They were freaks and anomalies.
Of all the positions, it seems to me that QB and OL are better as they get older for 99% of them. Especially OL.
Some QB’s (see Chambliss, Pavia, Burrow, Beck and others for recent examples) seem like phenoms and are used by some as examples of great transfers. But a lot of people forget that they’ve had time to hone their craft. They were all upper classmen when they transferred

Wouldn’t mind if Calloway and Miller came back

Supply and demand. Looking at the ones available, most are RSFr or Fr. Almost all the upper classmen are taken.

I saw somewhere that there’s a correlation between the amount of $ a given position makes in the NFL to the same in college.
QB paid most, then edge and left OT.

The thing I hate the most is I honestly don’t think our O-Line was bad. Were they bad at times? Yes. But I think it falls on Nuss and the scheme.

Davis had his best game of the season in the Bowl. He trended upward his last 3 games after coming back from injury. He has the raw talent to be a good Tackle.
