If Kiffin could find a guy like Chambliss then I trust his judgement. Not going to be surprised if a couple of Olineman we get in the portal are not highly regarded. They may fit his scheme better though.

Small schools are able to block our 5 star dlineman

So its all about right group and coaching until you start getting them from high school again

Doubt it. Ole Miss just signed their guys back to bigger deals and probably overpaid to do so. Trying to protect the roster from LSU. Kentucky...I'm not familiar with their line but considering how awful it was I doubt we want anyone on it.

We could get five walk-ons and not be any worse than this year's line.

There are a few who could potentially come back according to some reports. We will just have to see how it works out from Jan 2nd-Jan 16th.

I agree there is talent in the group leaving but for some reason the “group” did not prove they were worth what they were being paid. I fully believe they were told that and they knew NiL was being reduced so they got pissed and threaten to leave.
I do expect 1 or 2 to reconsider and not officially enter the portal.

No panic

There’s no need to panic, but going out and getting 4-5 established starters from elsewhere via the portal will be a lot more expensive than holding onto 1 or 2 of the talented guys we had who just need proper coaching and development.

If they do let all of these guys currently in the portal walk (which I don’t expect), then I do hope they prioritize holding onto the young bench guys to go with the 2 incoming recruits. They will be relatively inexpensive and they only spent a year with Davis, so it may be easier to break some bad coaching and habits.

My GUESS is that Chambliss will not be an option. I don 't think he is going to get that extra year. When you have to submit MORE information to the NCAA to try to prove your medical redshirt case, that is not good news. I used to think that OL were among the easiest to project (easier than QB and CB for example). But a prime case of a miss was Brockenmeyer out of Ft Worth I think who everyone wanted (high 5*)...went to Alabama and couldn't even get on the field. And Alabama even gave a scholarship to his brother that wasn't even highly rated. I think I saw him playing for someone the other day in college.

Fair point...this year's OLine proved that being a physically elite prospect doesn't automatically translate into be a good, college O-lineman.

Watching the introductions at the beginning of NFL games, the players come from all over CFP. What they do at an elite level is move and are well versed at complex blocking / offensive schemes.

Except you need more than just 5 OL to make it through a season. If you spend too much on a completely new line. You won’t have much left to spend on other positions of need. You need more than two RBs and two QBs to make it through spring and fall camp. IMO, the need a couple of linebackers s well. Then there’s retention.

ok, but this year's line was an absolute disaster. We don't have to be worse to still be a disaster.

It will be easier to start with guys that wish to work their asses to compete.
These ones seem to be tainted by a lack of toughness and desire, let them go play in Sunbelt.

Sometimes when you learn bad habits young they are hard to break. Not saying they can’t go somewhere else and turn into players, but breaking bad habits and then teaching new ones can be a process. Throw in some of those kids knowing they were the problem most of the year and having wrecked confidence puts them way behind.

Better to just clean slate the entire thing. Plus if you’re a 5 star kid who is getting blown away by western Kentucky you’ve got some flaws that might not be fixable. Natural talent should be enough in those matchups and it wasn’t.
