Harris just wasn’t good dude, decent arm talent but pretty awful at basically everything else you’d want in a qb

People only got excited for him because we had been through such a long qb drought but he sucked here and sucked at UNC.

Danny Etling started LSU’s modern QB era. I still remember when he completed a 15 yard forward pass to a TE and we all lost our shite. Tiger Stadium was rocking lol
Crazy that a year or 2 later we had the GOAT college QB.

It's sad that this is 100% true. Didn't he throw a bomb TD to Desean Smith on one of his first plays after he replaced Harris?

He was terrible but he had some absurd arm strength and good enough mobility to extend plays. Physically he was a top shelf QB but mentally horrific. I think he just panics under the lights, because he was pretty damn good in scrimmages and such.

That Mizzou game was so much fun. Went from the most painful offense to watch, to breaking school record of total offense.

Yep. And the dozen plus huge divots at the feet of his receivers proved this.

He and Wickersham were the worst LSU QBs at underthrowing receivers with impressive velocity.

Pretty sure that was vs Mizzou in 2016. Motioned Smith across the backfield and hit him in stride on a wheel route down the sideline for a long TD.

I remember thinking, yes, yes, Les really is gone.

ETA - guess I’m getting old as my memory is wrong on this. Stats say Desean Smith had zero receptions vs Mizzou in 2016 and only 1 TD all season (Jacksonville State). But I have a distinct memory of Smith scoring on a long sideline throw from Etling in that game. Maybe it was called back on penalty. That would have been the ghost of Les.

No it was against I think Jackson State.

Harris was playing terribly, and on the first or second play, the OC called a formation with three wide outs a route tree, something LSU fans hadn't experienced in years. Etling hit the TE for a TD and everyone watching the game knew that Harris' days were done because he didn't have the mental capacity to call or run that very basic play lol

It makes absolutely no sense. Herb Tyler had four solid years as the LSU starting QB. He was good in 1998; the Tigers' 4-7 record was crafted by Lou Tepper and his swiss cheese defense.

Brandon Harris: 4 of 15 for 80 yards with 1 int/0 TD... vs EASTERN MICHIGAN(2015)....a team which finished 1-11 in 2015.

Brandon Harris was bad, but Anthony Jennings was worse

Was Etling the kid that transferred to LSU from an Ivy League college and played QB as a walk-on? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Met him and his Dad in Dick’s years ago. He was a great guy and good to my sons.
