Anyone else feel like with the way he has swung the bat and his general approach at the plate, that he has won the 2nd base job? Feels like it to me. He looks do comfortable and control in his ABs. Drawing a ton of walks, hitting the ball hard and went the other way the other day against a lefty. Feels like starting him against the lefty today was another sign that he may have won the job. And id say he has earned it. 5th year seniors can be very valuable

Feel like it’s not even a debate anymore unless he gets into a Braswell type slump.

Reports before the season started led me to believe he was best suited for the job and I have seen nothing thus far to counter that. I think defense would be more likely to be his downfall than his bat. I don't think he's been bad there but that would be my only potential concern with having him there full time. I think with more reps he can get more and more comfortable. Not sure who the best defensive option we'd have for 2b and how much of an upgrade that would be over Dardar so I suspect he'll stick there.

He gives me Gavin Dugas vibes. Louisiana guy, upperclassman, serviceable defense at second, gives you great at bats.

Dardar has a few inches and lbs on Dugas, but hopefully he can emerge as just as good a leader

As long as he stays hot it is his job. If he slows down I expect a platoon with Simpson. Only issue with the infield so far is Caraway’s defense at third.

Dardar is an extremely hard out at the plate. He’s one of those guys that if he were on the other team he’d be super annoying because he’d be a thorn in your side because you just can’t get him out. So far I think Dardar has been the most difficult hitter to strikeout in the entire LSU lineup. So glad he’s in purple and gold this year.

Agreed. I'm taking best bat at 2nd unless really elite defense.

He’s hitting .400 with 5 extra base hits in 15 ABs and has 9 BB with 0 Ks. Yeah it’s his job

Exactly. We all knew coming into this season that Reaves and Simpson could be questionable at times at the plate. Dardar has the highest floor and should continue to get at bats as a starter unless he is not hitting.

7 games into the season. Nothing is permanent except CF/RF/SS/and catcher. Maybe Yorke at 1st also

Agree nothing is solidified until you get into the thick of SEC play and see those types of arms consistently.

I couldn't agree more. Dardar has been extremely impressive so far this season, and he has a ton of experience. He's earned it with his play! Dardar is our 2b imo.

Out of all of these guys that Jay is juggling between 2nd and 3rd base, I'm not crazy about any of them, defensively, but Dardar appears to have the best glove out of any of them so far, and has clearly been the best bat among them.

I think it's early to say anything is decided there, because 6 games can just be a hot streak. But Dardar has certainly positioned himself well. I just don't understand why Simpson is being treated like he stole money from the team. The dude is getting basically no opportunity.

Probably trying to keep him healthy and fresh through out the season. Did have an ACL surgery in 2024. Bet he’s the everyday second baseman by the time SEC play rolls around.

I think he’s earned the right to lose the job

His glove is better than most give credit for. He saved a run on a diving play vs Indiana.

His arm or really transitioning needs to improve to speed up some double plays

If you can play him through 7 and get his offense, then you can sub in Ruckert for the last 2 for great defense to close the game

Yes and for the love of God, put Simpson in left and leave him in the game.

Think about how good we had it with Dickinson last season. Even with the broken hand at the end.

They mentioned this on the broadcast after LSU failed to turn a double play. Had difficulty getting the ball out of his glove on the transfer. But they also mentioned that he has played predominantly 3rd base his whole career so that’s an adjustment that he’s been working on.

But I’ve mentioned multiple times that Dardar has had to best at bats so far this season. And that’s not to discredit Brown’s great start, but as a whole, Dardar’s plate discipline is what JJ loves to see from his hitters.

I think it should be clear that Dardar has separated from the pack and is your 2B moving forward. The real battle is DH (when Arrambide is catching) and the 4th OF spot.
