re: Do you think LSU makes the 12 team playoff this year?

I'm just going to bump this, with our schedule included:
USC neutral site
Nicholls
@ South Carolina
UCLA
South Alabama
Ole Miss
@ Arkansas
@ Texas A&M
Alabama
@ Florida
Vanderbilt
Oklahoma
Of the road/neutral site games:
USC, USCe, Arky, A&M, Fla- all are manageable, with A&M probably being the toughest. Let's say 4-1.
Home games: Nicholls, UCLA, South Alabama, Ole Miss, Bama, Vandy, Oklahoma. Of that, I would say UCLA, Ole Miss, Bama and OU could beat us. Tiger Stadium has been a house of horrors for Ole Miss, and I think UCLA and OU aren't ready for what they will face. That leaves Bama as the likeliest team to beat us, and it's not going to be Saban leading them this year. So, let's figure 6-1.
That should be an easy Top 10 record, likely one of the last hosting teams. Will probably face someone like Utah at home first round.

Who do you suggest they replace him with when his butt is scorched and he dances away ?

No I don’t. The defense isn’t good enough. We are going to be exposed at corner and the interior DL.

1. Utah is the favorite to win the Big12. If they do, they will be a top 4 seed and have a round one bye.
2. 10-2 is NOT a guaranteed PO berth for LSU. Much will depend on how other Power 4 conference teams' records stack up. 11-1 or 12-1 teams in the BIg10 or Big 12 or ACC will get in before a 10-2 LSU does.
2. 10-2 is NOT a guaranteed PO berth for LSU. Much will depend on how other Power 4 conference teams' records stack up. 11-1 or 12-1 teams in the BIg10 or Big 12 or ACC will get in before a 10-2 LSU does.

Yes!
East = ga , Missouri
West = Ole, lsu
Ga, ole miss, lsu make playoffs.

Maybe not "guaranteed" but a 2 loss LSU would be ranked RIGHT behind the undefeated and 1 loss teams.

There's generally 6-8 undefeated or 1 loss teams pre playoffs. I mean, sure, they'd get in first but that still leaves 4 spots and you gotta think a 2 loss LSU wouldn't be ranked behind 3 other 2 loss teams.

That statement alone should be why ESPN should never be taken seriously

I think we will. Kelly is in his third year, and shame on him if he can’t get us into the top 12. He has NFL talent across the board with only interior DL and CB as slightly below that level - and the talent at those groups is a lot better than most realize.
Of course injures could derail this, and that is part of the betting odds. This is especially true if the QB goes down. But major injuries aside, this is a top 5 team.

Playoff has 12 teams, not the top 12 teams.

Yes, that's assuming the winners of the SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and ACC will all be Top 11... biggest chance for any of them not to be would come from the Big 12. The other conferences, your top 2 teams should all be that highly ranked; even the ACC, if it comes down to Fla State/Clemson. The Big 12 is probably the only conference where a championship might include one team playing to get in, as compared to 2 teams playing for a bye.
So for practical purposes, an at-large team needs to finish in the Top 10. Top 8 should lock it up regardless of upsets in the championships. LSU's schedule is such that they would be up there, if they finish 10-2. Opener vs USC, games against Bama, Ole Miss and Oklahoma at home, A&M on the road... you're talking wins vs at least 3 (more if they lose to someone else).
They would be behind the conference favorites, and then probably be ahead of any upset-hopeful conference challengers.
So if Ohio State is undefeated and expected to win the Big 10 championship,
a) they win, and LSU hosts the team Ohio State beat to win it.
b) they get upset, and host LSU.

What about our schedule makes you think we “should” make the playoffs?
Who should we lose to that had an insurmountable advantage over us 36 months ago? If Ole Miss beats us then Lane's just the better program builder. Period.

Depends on how fast our transfers and especially freshmen grow up on the DL
Not just freshmen. All the DL could be better from coaching alone. Not saying they are. Just saying they are getting more care, knowledge and actual coaching from this staff than the previous.

with 2 losses absolutely, with 3 only if 2 are early. Just guessing here. So, likely yes, I think the odds are good to be in the top 12.
