I don't people taken in the top 10 have gotten 3M

Have not seen a 3M bonus, but looks like top 2-3 will exceed.

Cam Bedrosian got 1.16 or in that neighborhood one spot below Lee.

There is no way that they are offering him $3 million. There is also no way that they aren't going to make him an offer. We'll see what it is, but I still think that he ends up a Tiger.

The 119th overall pick signed for a 2million dollar bonus, so it might happen.

The way draftees are compensated in baseball is just about as screwy as paying an unproven QB on the NFL level a $50 million dollar bonus.

No, it's much less screwy in baseball actually. In football, the top players' guaranteed money exponentially exceeds that of baseball players.

But in baseball you may have someone drafted in the second or third round making more money than someone in the first.

Iregardless of what happens at least it doesn't look like we will be like the greenie weenies who were moaning the other day about losing some guy who was drafted in the 12 or 13th round. I think he ended up getting $250K.

The guy is suppose to be pretty smart also. Maybe he realizes he isn't going to be poor regardless of what he does.

Either you are poor or don't work enough if you don't make that in your working lives.

True, but that is because leverage is involved in baseball contracts, since you can go pro when you are 18 and fresh out of high school. So you may take a hs graduate in the 3rd round and throw a million at him in case he decides to opt out of college.

This scenario is virtually nonexistent in football, because nobody is prepared out of high school. Thus, players tend to stick with their slotted amount. Also, in football you have to actually declare.

Actually, it is totally non-existant in football because players aren't eligible until 3 years after graduating high school.

Although this is speculation I just don't see the Dodgers offering over 3 million.

Think about this if you will... Are the Dodgers stating they will go all out on the signing bonus in order to create a smoke screen? Lee would be the 6th or 7th richest player in this entire draft if he gets over 3 million.

Anything can happen in the next 24 hours...

When you look at the Zach Lee situation from all angles, it is an unenviable one.

LSU
Miles
Mainieri
Dodgers
Zach Lee
and even Elliot Porter.

Something has to be done to eliminate the collateral damage in the future.

I would hope, anyway.

Here's an article from yesterday's LA Times suggesting that the Dodgers are unlikely to sign Lee:

LINK

And here's a Yahoo Sports article suggesting that the Dodgers are seriously making a strong effort to sign him:

I link, you decide.

a smoke screen for what? they just have to offer a 'fair' amount.. like 1M.

if it's above 2M the kid should take it IMO. i'd be telling him to take it over 1M too though

Exactly, they have to make an offer as to not show they just gave away this pick for 2011. The smokescreen could be for the actual Dodger organization/fanbase which is in a frenzy to say the least.
