We had 6300 fans for the SEC home opener this season.

6300 tickets sold. There haven't been more than 3,000-4,000 at any game this season.

We used to sell out the Superdome when Dale was coach. Back in the 1980s and early 1990s LSU basketball was huge We have the greater college basketball player ever as the namesake on the arena Invest in program start to win again and people will flock to the PMAC

Have anywhere close to 2k students showed up to any game this season under McMahon?

The students show up for every game... to get the free promotional stuff... and then head out before the game even starts.

Saw it first hand yesterday. There was a line to get in through the student portal; and most grabbed their Shaq statue and immediately turned around and left.

It's kind of a shitty sport. Possessions are pretty repetitive, refs make it unwatchable, and the bonus makes it incredibly anticlimactic.

Play prison rules and get rid of the charge and blocking fouls and it would probably be more entertaining

Unpopular opinion but agreed. Each score and game counts for so little compared to other sports in the grand scheme of things because of how many of each there are. Regular season has no meaning as long as you make it in the playoffs/tournament. Also, what's probably the most "spectacular" play in a huge dunk, counts for the least amount of points (outside of a free throw).

Incredible athletes. Boring, nonsensical, and ego-driven sport overall.

You ever see Death Valley for a rent-a-win or the Box for a midweek game?

In 2006 we made the final four and had a 5 year run before that with good teams that were exciting. Tyrus Thomas was one of the most exciting players I’ve ever watched. Yet midway into January we still didn’t have huge crowds for games. It wasn’t until the last few weeks of the season did they really start promoting them and people took notice.

The Brady era was a roller-coaster. The program had cratered in Brown's final years and Brady's first two seasons were bad (it also didn't help that he was an a-hole). He then had a great 3rd season...before immediately dropping back in to last place the very next year. The next 3 seasons were roller coasters even within the season. 1 step forward...1 step back. Sure, relative to these past 4 seasons the 5 years prior to 2006 look great. But those were mostly average teams. The one exception was the 2005 team, which was a good team. But any goodwill built by that team was lost when, as a 6 seed, they were blown off the court in Boise, ID by 11 seed UAB. The inconsistency of the program started to drive away the fans who lived through the 80's when basketball was as big of a draw as football. And Brady wasn't well liked.

You're living in revisionist history. LSU was not a dominant team from start to finish in 2006. LSU was 7-4 entering January. They lost to Northern Iowa (who was a good team, though casual fans didn't realize it) at home. By the time SEC play started in mid January LSU was 8-5 on the season. At that time it wasn't seen as a potential Final Four team. It was seen as just another inconsistent Brady team. Then they got on a roll to start SEC play. THAT is why the crowds started to show. Not because it was a "Baton Rouge issued".

Fans love football. Most love baseball. Basketball is fun if we make a run

Fans love a winner. End of story. That's not unique to LSU. 60k+ fans showed up in the Superdome, 2x, to watch LSU play in the 80's. That's not because people in the 80's preferred basketball over baseball. It's because the basketball team was winning and the baseball team (at least early in Bertman's tenure) wasn't. "Shockingly" once Bertman started to win the fans started to show.

That’s what keeps top talent away.

LSU was awful in Jones' final season. The fans weren't showing up. Then a new HC showed up and he was signing 5 star players from New Jersey, Florida, Virginia, Alabama. The size of the crowds (or lack thereof) had NOTHING to do with the ability to sign players.

The crowds and interest started to build in 2019 as LSU started to have more and more success. The fans were showing up in 2020. Then, on the eve of the NCAAT in 2020 the world lost its collective minds. The next season was limited capacity. The year after than the fans started to return....

Then the administration nuked the program at the end of the season. All of the momentum that had been building vanished.

Still, the fans wanted to support the program. On 12/28/22 LSU opened SEC play vs a top 10 Arkansas team. Even though classes were out for the semester break the students still showed up. Here's a photo from that night

LSU won that game....then proceeded to lose 17 of its next 18 games. Since that point there has been very little incentive for the fans to return. LSU has had the worst record in the SEC over the past 4 years. Following that win vs. Arkansas in 2022, LSU has gone 14-47 in SEC play. Fans not showing up isn't a "Baton Rouge problem". It's a Matt McMahon problem because he's lost more than any other LSU HC in decades.

We are top 15 ALL TIME in McDonald's/Parade AA signings.

Even Trent signed at least one in O'bryant. Johnny's dumb arse signed a handful.

We've never had a player problem, we've had a coaching problem with precious few exceptions.

The short answer is no.
The best years of LSU basketball were under Dale Brown. Started in the late 70's and continued through Shaq. Back then you got to see players for multiple years and you felt like you "knew" the team.
Basketball is different because you see the players close up and without helmets. Now, we don't know the players from year to year. It is hard enough for the average LSU athletic fan to relate to the players of today to begin with. Even winning wont matter until you are well past halfway in the season. Maybe you get some excitement going and head to the tournament. When that's over you will have to start the process all over next year. No momentum carry over.

I don’t think we know how much they care about basketball yet. We know the previous administration didn’t. Or at least enough to be competitive.

This right here. If we had a consistent winner then the PMAC would be full.

What makes it worse is that CoachMc and Golden were hired to their current jobs in the same year.

LSU has floundered and UF has won a NC.

Coaching matters.

LSU fans don't really give a shite about hoops unfortunately. I had season tickets during the Wade years and we couldn't even get a sell out unless Kentucky came to town. A lot of you are going to be disappointed in the type of coach this program attracts when we stary looking for a new one.

That's ok. 99% of college sports fans don't know LSU won the college world series last year either.

No one gave a shite about baseball until Skip.

I started LSU in 1989. I watched LSU Football/Basketball much earlier.

These dudes are bandwagoners, never stepped in an LSU classroom or auditorium.

College baseball is the best sport in college. That's not true at all.
