took sevral years to come to the decision, not a quick study imho

this past year's OL should have been a dominant unit. No excuses

Collins was the 5 star #1 OT when he came out, pretty sure the rest of the line is made up of 4 stars.
Hawk and Porter were 3's. But who gives a shite about stars.

Collins has all the talent one needs, he was the posterboy for this firing for me.

Stats? More like extremely subjective rating systems. There is literally zero way you can deny we've had arse-loads of underachieving talent on the OL.
Oh, you edited, NVM. But my point still stands.

Not really surprised that it happened, but this is not Les's usual MO. He generally announces that an assistant has decided to move on to a new position somewhere else to avoid embarrassing him. (One of the things I've always liked about Les...) If he just out-and-out fired Stud, there must be more to the story. Perhaps, as some have intimated, this was Cam's call. But I'm still surprised that Les would just cut Stud loose.
Technically LSU hasn't come out and announced that stud was leaving... So they still may do this.

So his eval skills were on point, unless they were more of Ensminger's evals.
Actually, evals across the board have been better since WIlson came on staff because more coaches have to see a kid to offer than under Coach Step.

It would have been nice if Stud used his Midwestern connections to pull more OL from that area since you're going to use the talent angle.

Stud wanted him at guard. Felt he would have been a top-10 pick easily.

This is accurate. Almost every year of his tenure you could look at the pieces coming back and forecast how great our OL would be the upcoming year. And every year it was lackluster.
Yeah I liked Stud, he was fun to listen to. I defended him on here multiple times because we would see glimpses of dominance from the O-line, especially in the run game. I chalked up our struggles in pass protection to injuries and attrition in years past.
But it's obvious the o-line is too incosistent and underperforms. We have the talent, and it's past time to get someone in here that does a better job with them.

stud is/was ol coach, so wouldn't he be responsible for ol recruiting. this year we should have had the best offense in LSU history. mett at qt, hill at rb, obj & landry at wr. the best foursome in LSU history. ol held us back.

Mizzou 2012 situation
In the 2012 season, Mizzou lost like 3 starting and 2 backup OL for the season. They finished the year with at least two walk-ons starting.

It's the first post I made ITT. His talent evaluation was below mediocre. That's my main complaint.

2011 was the high water mark of this. The thing about the pass blocking is that is so inconsistent - is that the talent coming out on the good plays or are they forgetting their coaching on the bad plays?
Or is it a combination?

My exact sentiments

These rumblings about Stud started in early October. CC slighted him when mentioning how Miles is a great Oline coach. Also mentioned Henry and Wilson and not Stud.
I first heard about those rumblings at a benefit for Andy Pettitte's charity the week before Halloween. My buddy who is close fiends with both Mawae and Pettitte stated Mawae was interested in coaching but the travel was not something he was thinking he could handle.
However, he ( Mawae) was told "90% of our evaluations are done at camp" so travel won't be a major issue. His ability to teach technique and work side-by-side Les and polish the deep snapping would be very welcomed.
If Les makes call I give Mawae a 50% chance.
If Cameron has say so I give it 0% chance.
