Has the arms race to upgrade facilities, increase stadium capacity, etc. come to a crawl?

I'm not saying folding chairs next to steel lockers, but has the focus shifted from luring top talent in with fancy pods and having the biggest, most tricked-out facilities to just ponying up the $$$?
Football ops upgrades were initially intended to wow the top blue chippers from high school, but now it seems as if more $$$ to play in a 60,000 seat stadium beats out playing in a storied venue, tradition, etc. Does this change a school's approach to how they upgrade facilities?

Maybe
Florida States new stadium is 68k and OU just announced a 600m renovation that will lower capacity to 73k and offer more premium seats

Yea no one can afford those upgrades anymore with how much we're paying coaches and players. Cutting women's basketball could be a good start though

Have you seen TT’s new facility?

Without really delving g in to the question with an expert answer, I can say this:
Recruits/Portalers want:
Everything
So there will be schools that can offer all
Or most of:
Nil
Rev share
Training table
Facilities
Nutrition
Other X factors that recruits want.
Coaching
Thing is, Indiana doesn’t compete with these, so there are still intangibles and buy in needed.

Company A offers you $1 million to work for them.
Company B offers you $500,000, but has a much nicer office than company A.
Where are you going to work?

Not a single thing matters anymore outside of money and playing time

Agree with you. Just implying schools may slow down or approach facility upgrades differently since the game has changed and the primary (and most logical) motivator is money.

Texas Tech stadium seats 60,000, they have half the suites and premiums seats that Tiget Stadium has and Tech only sells 33,000 season tickets compared to LSU selling over 72,000 season tickets. It is not really a contest for football, but they are spending large amounts on NIL.

I thought the stadium expansion part pretty much got a death sentence right about when COVID hit for stadiums that were already about 70K or bigger.
Those depend on specifics, but most major programs only need to tweak things as they go along now. And this is typically cheaper and money well spent relative to stadium expansion when you barely fill seats.

Wish LSU would downsize to around 92k and add some suites/club level options

The fact that you’re comparing college football to a Fortune 500 company is why this sport has died in 2020 and no one takes it serious anymore like we have done our entire lives before

Decrease stadium capacity maybe

There's a reason the NFL sticks with 65-70K with a bunch of premium seating, even the new stadiums. The 100K plus stadiums are hard to fill with so many entertainment options and stupid high prices.

Lol was going to assume you have to have both

Tiger stadium holds enough people for one half a football game.

I think the final 4 all have stadium capacity under 70,000 or in that neighborhood. So yes, it is the cash that matters.

That was the coolest facilities tour I have ever seen.
The way it was filmed and edited with the appearance of single shot was hard not to appreciate.

It strips down the fabric of what college football is, making it about money, which consequently ruins everything
You now have agents acting on behalf of kids. Step 1 is to get the agents out of this. Unfortunately, the NCAAs lack of directions has made this a complex fix. CFB needs a commissioner, not the NCAA
