Paul Byrd has the best mlb career if that’s you scale. Theriot has more rings if that’s your scale.

Exactly. True 5 tool players don’t play 2B. Doesn’t mean they aren’t great. Jose Altuve is pretty good but no one would ever describe him as a true five tool guy.

I can’t name a “5 tool” player that’s really ever played in college. I love me some Crews but he ain’t no 5 tool guy. Might as well start looking for unicorns.

Joey Belle was a 5 tool guy. 8 straight years with 30 and 100. With 20 sb a year and a freakin cannon for an arm. Crews can’t do that even if he would roid up. NO SHOT

Haven’t read all 5 pages yet, but for “smoothest swing” only...Brad Hawpe would like to enter the discussion.

You know what’s funny about this game… pitching has not gotten any faster by the same amount as you’ve seen in any other sport. Why is that?

This is flat out false . There is actually factual data that tells otherwise

I’m not saying he isn’t. But your reasoning for why crews isn’t is hilarious. Your comparing less than 2 years in college to an MLB career that was 30 years ago. I’m laughing my arse off over here.

Yep, Walkers swing was awesome. Consistently awesome regardless of the pitcher or situation he was in. He and Furniss are always in the conversation for greatest hitters in the history of the SEC. -80hrs and his BA over 4 yrs is quite an accomplishment…

In the MLB, I’d say the same about Griffey Jr.

"Walker had the sweetest swing I can remember ever seeing at LSU. His homers were majestic."

Todd Walker was the best pure hitter in LSU history. Crews is great but he’s no Walker. Period.

Todd Walker wasn't just a great hitter. He was a great clutch hitter. If you were down with runners on base and you needed a hit, he got it. he didn't strikeout. he didn't ground out. he didn't fly out. He got the hit. That is what I most remember about Walker. And he did it in big games. For that reason alone I put him ahead of Crews. For now. Still a lot of baseball left.

In the first 2 games this weekend in Nashville. Crews is doing pretty good

quote:

Crews is hitting .750 (6-for-8) with 1 double, 3 homers, 7 RBI & 5 runs scored

Crews will have to be in the conversation after next season which will likely be even better than his last 2 seasons.

He makes it look easier than anybody I can remember at LSU.

Whenever I think about how difficult it is to project major league success based on college baseball dominance, I remember that just one baseball player in the history of the SEC has ever made it to the major league hall of fame ... Frank Thomas.

If Crews played before dead bat era nobody on here would question him as the best baseball player ever for LSU. What's unfortunate for him is he plays in this era on top of probably not getting a championship like he should at LSU. This is the only thing that prevents most LSU fans from saying he's the best of the best. Either that or he's right there with Walker. Nothing to show for it and it's unfair but that's how it is.

You can't deny how clutch Walker was but you really have to wonder how much was in their favor due to it being a hitter's league then while bats have been significantly neutered for Crews. It changes the game and definitely has impact on performance so you could argue Crews would be better if he sat in Walker's era. I don't really know how much worse Walker would be if he played today but I'd have to think despite how consistent he was his performance would go down with the bats. It's difficult to really measure eras against each other and probably unfair.
