Unless I’m missing something, with the defense we have returning and add Lamar Brown to the mix, then add Leavitt and those receivers. Am I off in thinking we are in the playoffs next year? And maybe with a bye? So far looking like Lane is living up to the $91 million

I’m still going to tamper expectations. I think 9-3 would be a good first year with the roster overhaul and 10 wins would be amazing. I say we could be a fringe playoff team, but won’t expect it.

It’s good to be amped up about the changes, but you still have to play the games. Who’s to say some other teams didn’t find “sleepers” or diamonds in the rough?

Ole Miss is going to file a lawsuit against you for expectation tampering.

We probably have the hardest schedule in the country next year and we still have OL holes to fill. Temper your expectations

We need an o line that can open a hole and sustain drives, working the clock. Keeping the defense off the field would go a long way.

Holy shite, dude. Slow the roll a little. That is not realistic at all. A million things have to fall into place and our schedule is a bitch.

I hope you and other Rantards don't turn on Lane if he only manages 8 or 9 wins next year and falls short of your unlikely expectations.

We also have one of the most difficult schedules in the country next year.

Why?

Significant roster turnover is a way of life for every power conf. school. We no longer have a system where "rebuilding" is linear. You build a 1 year roster, try to maximize it, then do it all over again. Like it or not, that is the way of the world in college sports now. Just look at the CFP. Having a good returning QB used to be a big deal. It's not anymore. 9 of the 12 teams had a new starting QB from the year before. Texas Tech went from 7-5, 6-6, 8-4, to 12-1 largely because of a big transfer portal haul.

I'm NOT saying LSU should fire the HC if he doesn't make the CFP next season. But the multi-year "rebuild" expectation timeline for a school like LSU is over.

Need an offensive line and a tier 1 edge rusher so we can get pressure with 4 and not have to blitz so much.

Lamar Brown isn't likely starting anything next year. Leavitt is 5 months away from throwing a football. Chill.

It's the first year with a new coach and you are basically saying we should expect LSU to run the table during the regular season? Good Lord man.

Temper your expectations. Playoffs should not be an expectation in year one. That would be nice though, of course. But give him some time to build his team and get things in order.

We definitely have a chance to be legit contenders but it will be hard for this new team due to our ROUGH schedule.

I can't speak for the guy you are replying to, but for me, several reasons.

First, one of our weaknesses was the O-line play. And O-line play is most predictable with returning units mostly intact. Guys who haven't played together can be a crapshoot.

Second, we have a new QB1 coming off an injury and a new QB2 coming from a lower level. We don't know what they will look like vs SEC defenses.

Third, the new QBs need time to get in sync with the new receivers we now have.

All of that may be smoothed out by the start of the season or SEC play. I am generally a sunshine pumper, but I want to approach Lane's first season rationally, understanding that a stumble or even two or three is at the very least a possibility if not a likelihood.

But I'll probably be irrational by the start of the season

Going to be close I think. But the schedule is set up pretty good. Just have to watch the away games as usual.

Yep, tap the brakes. OL is still a glaring weakness. Now I have more faith in Lane and Leavitt to hide deficiencies in OL, but typically championship contenders are solid in the trenches.

All last offseason we were fed playoff expectations with that QB & those WRs.. This team, just like last year, will go as far as the oline will let it.
