single snap where Perkins lined up at DE

Bro, shut up. Perkins got BULLIED by Nicholls. Stop acting like he would have any success as a DE agasint 320 lb SEC OTs.

He is 6'2" 230 lbs. He is not a star position type player.

I think I saw on the paid boards someone saying that Baker wants Spears at Star. But that was before the Delane signing.

Dottery is a West Weeks replacement.

Les, I'm just busting your balls. I thought as a fellow Rummel guy we could joke with each other, no?

the "star" gets too much attention here. there is nothing really unique about the position.

it’s not even a real position. what is it the Nickelback?

Maybe because we signed 3 edges in the portal that all needed immediate reps to justify the amount of money they were paid. None of those guys could do anything else. They couldn't cover and they weren't big enough to slide inside on passing downs so putting Perkins on the edge meant taking one of them off the field completely.

You could play the game under a blanket and Keys still couldn't cover anyone. He's one of my favorite players on the team because he's tough as nails. But he can't cover. So someone had to do it.

Blake did the best he could with what he had. So did Perk.

It’s basically just a 3rd safety. Cooley or Spears will probably fill the position this year.

Star is modern code for drop linebacker.

I’d like to see how Spears does in that role. Seems like he could be a good fit in that role with his length.

Whoever it is needs to be a really good open field tackler.

For the good moments that Perkins would have he was prone to missing open field tackles.

Good offensive strategy made Perkins irrelevant by design by putting him in coverage, where he couldn't be effective around the LOS. Whether anyone likes it or not, Perkins was most useful in his capacity of his freshman year, where he had one role/responsibilty and that was to pin his ears back and get the QB on 3rd and longs or to mainly spy. That was where he was valuable, outside of that, he was somewhat of a liability.

I'd be shocked if the star isn't Benefield from Boise. It won't be Spears. Who the hell is saying that? Spears will most likely start at FS.

So…it will be anyone on the roster other than Spears.

Perkins is really good in coverage, too. There was just a glaring need this last year for another pass rusher. And he was the best pass rusher on the team, yet seldom used in that capacity.

In my opinion, the star position is a very athletic and elite strong safety
