WOW- The Rant never disappoints….
He might be fired at years end, because we have new people in charge of Athelic Department, we don’t know yet.
But to come here and want to fire a 12-2 coach that lost a close game in the road with the best player out due to injury? Come on Rant- do better.

quote:I get it. I don't care what he was doing tbh. Shaking the money tree is a major factor for sure.
Blue chip HS players were getting paid BEFORE NIL. It just wasn't out in the open. It wasn't like LSU was paying big money and the likes of Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, Arizona, Auburn, UCLA (schools he beat out for talent) weren't. Wade is a good recruiter in his own right and he's also good at shaking the "money tree" (donors). That's how he got the money to make the "strong arse offers" in the first place.
At NC St. he signed the 14th ranked transfer class ahead of this season so it seems likely he could continue to compete in that space. Remember, his first offseason at LSU was just piecing things together + Waters. It was year two where things took off.

Is that why? That surely means every employee in the athletic dept is in jeopardy of being fired at year’s end, correct?

LSU was 11-2 and lost their first SEC game last year without what some called that team's "best player"...they then proceeded to lost 14 of the next 17.
I'm NOT saying that will happen this year. In fact, I don't think it will. But the immediate lack of confidence in McMahon is not borne from some unfounded basis. It's that he's lost a LOT of SEC games in his career. 44 of 59 to be exact (when you factor in the SECT games). So while yes, you're right, it's just one close loss without the team's best player, no one except bizarrely dedicated few are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that the loss was just an anomaly.

Well let the season play out and if he doesn’t win he will be replaced.
But calling for a coach that won 90% of his game is ridiculous.
Hell he might not win another game or he might win them all. It’s Just funny “The Rant” wants him replaced right now. But I’ve never been a fire a coach mid-season unless there’s off the field/court stuff going on.

No.
Bring this obtuse is ridiculous.
Rightly pointing out that a coach that is 14-41 in conference play should be fired is anything but.

I didn’t see anyone advocating to fire McMahon with a 12-2 record. What I saw were very reasonable opinions that A&M was a game he likely needed to make the tournament. Is it possible this thing unravels quickly and he could be let go in late February…absolutely. We’ve seen his teams completely collapse in conference, multiple times.

14-41, 4-24.

Tell me again what the basketball program has done besides a F4 in 2006 and 2 solid teams with WW, who BTW was run off? So yeah, nice try also. I guess we can throw in some Not In Tournament (NIT) appearances , if that helps. Or live off memories of Dale Brown. Please.

LSU historically is one of the top 3 or 4 basketball programs in the SEC. Under Coach McMahon, the program has reached all time lows. We can and will do better after this nightmare is over.

So historically, they are better than Kentucky, Florida, or Arkansas? How many championships do they have again? Got to bed
Posted on 1/5/26 at 8:26 pm to ChestRockwell
Reading isn’t one of your strengths apparently.
LSU is second all time to Kentucky in regular season SEC championships. LSU is also top 5 in Final Fours (if you count Oklahoma and top 4 if you don’t).

quote:we should win this game. SC was the only team in the SEC predicted worse than us by the sports writers. Probably the only team we will be favored to win. LSU was predicted to finish 15th out of 16 SEC teams
If he loses to South Carolina this week it could get ugly fast. At that rate I doubt he makes it the full season If we get to 0-5 in the SEC I say just cut him loose and move on

We've never been serious about basketball before. Why start now?

Nonsense. Starting PG got hurt and we have a new AD now. This is basically year 0 again...

Rings matter. Keep your participation trophies

Your stupidity truly knows no bounds.
Which sec programs have rings besides kentucky, Florida and Arkansas?
The last 20 years is the timeline for relevance that you have arbitrarily set. What has Arkansas done in that time?
Alabama, Texas tech, and Iowa state are all programs you have deemed more successful than lsu in this thread. What rings do those programs have?
Can’t wait to see your next short bus worthy answers.

99% is relative - so 99% of the 500 folks who really care about men's basketball....and I'm using 500 for effect, but I think most will get the point.
I'm not hoping he gets fired, I'm hoping we start winning....but I still have concerns.
