The DL as a unit played pretty well.

Couldn't agree more. Was VERY pleased with how they played.

Perkins has been only ok so far at LSU. He’s made a decent amount of good plays but has not earned the pedestal some have placed him on.

The USC O-lineman made a nice play to knock the ball out of Weeks hands.

I’ve been saying this for two years and 500 down votes. But I don’t get paid the big bucks.

teams have schemed around him and taken advantage of his deficiencies. Go watch the A&M game from 2022. They ran for 274 yards, 5.5 a carry. Perkins finished with 1 solo tackle, and 1 assisted tackle.

He's been figured out. Kelly has done everything he can to turn him into a good football player at the college level. He just isn't. He's a one trick pony that in reality is only playable on obvious 3rd passing situations as an edge rusher.

Savion Jones probably had his best game as a Tiger: 4 solo, 1 ast, 2 TFL & 2 sacks. Keep GEAUXING SJ!
Swinson played up field a lot too. Strength of our DEF are the DEs and LBs.

Harold, much like our O-line is highly overrated. “2nd stringer” Whit Weeks is better.

His pursuit was great and he had lots of tackles but yes I agree he was not effective up the middle except the time where he hit the QB and RB in the backfield. But he had a clear lane.
Sometimes on his middle blitzes he was just running into a brick wall. Not sure if that was DL not making a lane or if he picked the wrong lane.

HP is fine when he has the “lane” defined, like edge rush. I see the problem being that he doesn’t have the natural instinct for the game like Honey Badger. When you look at great back 7 players on defense, the ones who always seem to be where the ball is have that sense. Something that can’t be taught. Ask any LB or DB Coach and they’ll tell you.

I would agree for the most part. His issue was his undisciplined eyes and lack of rush lane integrity. Its possible that the rush lane issue is due ti him being misused. Meaning most of the time get got in others way as a rusher it seemed like we had a stunt called and the looping player would run into him. Perk either didn't know the other rushers path which is a preparation issue or he was supposed to draw the blockers so the looper could spring free and just wasn't able to get the push he needed. The issue with the latter is that Perkins skillset should be used as the looper to let his speed shoot gaps. He isn't built to take on blocks to spring others free.

I think Perkins best ability is as a spy and hopefully he will be used effectively as such when we play more athletic QBs.

Lane Kiffin said “we didn’t have anyone on our team who was as good as Harold Perkins” (or something yo that effect?), after he was about the only person on our team slowing them down from scoring at will…

opposing coordinators have done a great job of keeping him out of the gameplan for nearly 2 years now.

riley was expected to do the same and did so in spades.

expect everyone else to keep doing the same.

you have to force perkins into action and activity somehow, I'm not how baker is going to do that

He needs to be on the outside. Agreed that he was not an impact.

Whit Weeks is filling holes like a LB is supposed to. Another year of S&C (if we are still doing that) and he will be a beast.

I know I'll get downvoted a ton for this statement, but I rewatched the game and it looked like Perkins took a lot of plays off. He was not running full speed and wrecking havoc like he did when he was a Freshman. I don't know if it is a lack of motivation or he doesn't understand his role/scheme, but he looked lost on a lot of plays.

He just doesn’t shed blocks that well……yet. He seems to want an easy path to the play. It’s a mindset so that could easily improve.

For all his athleticism, Perkins is the worst thing a defensive player can be - a tweener.

I think this is such a good observation. If he were 40 lbs heavier he would be a great DE, 20 lbs lighter a great DB but as is his skill set maybe isnt the best for MLB

Maybe he could grow into a Pat Swilling/Ricky Jackson type outside LB who rushes every play
