Great work OP. Very concise.

UGA’s hitting has been impressive so far but they truly have played the schools of the deaf and blind

Is that number good, bad, indifferent? Honestly do not know as a percentage of runners isn’t really tracked. I do know we hit .378 with RISP this weekend which is elite.

I don’t know, but having lots of baserunners isn’t an argument against a percentage.

Scoring 58 percent of base runners is very high.

Agreed. I can't think of a more worthless baseball stat than LOB.

Just a couple of thoughts:
1) I’m almost positive Yorke’s bat will continue to play in the SEC
2) I’m not so sure Carraway’s will. He has an awkward looking stance and approach that I’m afraid might have a hole in it that could get exposed against SEC pitching. Maybe not, but I think think he’s going to be kid of a streaky hitter either way. And if his defense at 3rd doesn’t/hasn’t improved greatly since the previous 2 seasons, he might wind up in a battle for a spot.
3) Because this lineup is very left-handed heavy, and I’m afraid could get somewhat exposed against good left-handed pitching. And when I say “exposed,” don’t freak out, I’m not saying it still won’t be good to really good. But Jake Brown has been our best hitter by far early on, and there’s gonna be a significant drop off with him against lefties. He may change his approach to go opposing field and put the bat on the ball, but his power numbers won’t be nearly the same. Which will affect the entire lineup and shrinken it against lefties. It’s pretty fricking long now, so even shorter, it will still be good, but just something to keep an eye on.
4) So it’s imperative that we find a couple of right-handed power bats that can DH against lefties and be dangerous when called upon to pinch hit late in close games. We’ve got a few candidates, so that’s good. I just hope they go out and win the jobs rather than get them by default. That’s been an issue with a couple of Jay’s teams, too including last year when he kept trying to force John Pearson into that role when it was clear he was still a year away.
5) I’m kind of obsessed with the length of lineups and you get long lineups by having studs in the middle and sliding really good guys down. Duh. But Arambedee being in the middle of this lineup helps allow for that. What happens when he has a day off? Is he going to DH? You’d prefer to give your catcher a complete day off when you do, and even DHing will have him on his feet at least some, especially if he gets some knocks and has to run the bases. Does he DH against righties? Cause then you’re likely having to sit Braun, which would shrink the lineup a bit.
So whenever Cade does get a rest day, it has to be against a right-handed starter. Can’t afford to have him not in the lineup and Brown facing a lefty in the same game. Just weakens the entire lineup by weakening the middle. And we still haven’t seen Yorke or Dardar hit against good lefties yet either.
And I just want to make it really clear that I’m not suggesting Jake Brown can’t hit lefties and can’t hit them well. I just think he’ll lose a good bit of power and be more of a leadoff or 2 or 5-hole type hitter with a little more swing and miss, not the most dangerous hitter on the team that you write in in the 3 or 4 spot with pen everyday, no matter who’s pitching.
Back to Cade, you’d love to just sit him mid week and save him for the weekends, but he is still only a 2nd year guy who still needs ABs to continue to develop.
Not being a Debbie Downer—this team is really, really good and can make another run at the CWS title. But there’s still some question marks, specifically how some of these guys handle quality left-handed SEC pitching. But if anybody can figure it out, it’s Jay.

The point was having a percentage of base runners left on and then saying we need to get better here is worthless without context of how we should get better.

I think we had a .400+ average vs lefties as a team this weekend.

I’m talking about against SEC pitching. And against high leverage relievers late in close games. And about us not having as much power. But I’m also not saying we will bad against them. I’m not even saying we won’t even continue to crush. I’m merely saying it’s something to keep an eye on and offering a slightly different prescriptive than the “this is the greatest lineup of all time” posts in this thread after 7 games before the last week in February.
I’m also not suggesting your post was argumentative. I appreciate the info. Hitting over .400 against lefties with such a left-handed heavy lineup is pretty impressive, no matter the competition.
