In my humble opinion, I think he needs to be in a downhill smashing run game, quarterback under Center running a smashing run game and play action, sort of like Jeremy Hill. My light in the game, the defenders will be tired of trying to pull him to the ground

“Real trouble”? Wouldn’t we just put in Kaleb Jackson?

Trying to run Kaleb Jackson laterally on 4th down was one of the worst all time play calls I’ve seen at LSU. first of all Kaleb is a downhill runner, secondly don’t call that dumb play on 4th and short.

Agree. Some of our running woes are on Sloan. The play where we send Kale sideways when we needed one yard was a bad call. Other times our run plays seem predictable.

Agreed, but for now, short yardage and swing passes should be his role

We have to get Kaleb Jackson going

I think this is the biggest issue. Running inside run plays against a stacked box isnt smart. Need to run some screens and some outside runs to get the defense afraid of the outside before trying to run up the middle with zero run blocking from our interior o lineman.

So like almost a full year ago?
Everything that Kaleb Jackson can do, we have someone else that can do it better.

If was him I’d be thinking about losing 10 pounds and get some quickness back.
I think he either needs to lose 15 lbs or gain 15 lbs. Considering the future we have at RB, I'd suggest the latter.

Not sure gaining 15 is in his best interest unless he wants to play LB

He got one carry.
We’re going to need him so we should be using him.
His burst is nice and he has soft hands.

Reality is he isn’t going to get the touches needed in practice to improve his vision. This is where he needs to use technology for extra reps similar to what J Daniels did at QB with the VR goggles. Physically he has the ability so it’s about the mental / vision side.

Who is he taking Carries away from? Both are better than him.

Part of the problem is that he plays so little.
When he comes in it is obvious to everyone where the action is so they key on him.
He has definitely squandered some decent opportunities by either seeking contact or just not seeing the lane.
I’d give him a series and slip him out into the flat to try and create space for him that way. Seems like one good play could spark him.

We can use him on the toss play that we used with John Emery in the usc game.
We can also use him on the short routes to the sideline and the angle route out the backfield but we have to get him the mix.

I don't understand why people continue to try and force Kaleb Jackson into something he isn't at this point. Our fanbase always loves the backup that's not playing.
KJ has an enormous amount of talent, but hasn't been able to turn that into success on the field. He has had every opportunity to prove he should get the bulk of the carries.
We will go to KJ if it's needed. Right now, KJ is not needed. His play style does not fit into this offense, square peg in a round hole. Durham and Williams are your 1 & 2.
In my opinion, any few touches that go to KJ now should go towards Anderson/Thomas in a sweep/motion.

Watch Jackson will have a big game when it's least expected.

Exactly. He’s been given plenty of opportunities. It’s now on him to get himself going and earn more opportunities and more carries. I do think a lot is mental/lack of confidence. But plays and drives are precious—we can’t afford to waste them letting him try to figure it out.
BUT, I’ve thought for 2 weeks that people were kinda poo-poo-ing Durham’s injury. 2 dislocated toes and everybody just shrugged it off as “NBD—he’s fine.” I don’t think he’s fine. And I don’t know how fast he can get fine without rest. We NEED another RB to step up. I don’t know about Anderson now as he’s a bonafide WR at this point, but I think Thomas could get 6-8 carries a game somehow.

Jackson is nowhere fast enough to run that toss play. He doesn’t get to the hole before the LB or safety who fills that hole. Williams is too slow also. Emery and Durham were fast enough. That’s why they were more successful. I wonder if that weight Jackson added hurt his speed.
But the main reason LSU has difficulties in running the ball is that other teams are denying us the run by 7-8 men in the box to make us one dimensional. That is why LSU is going to the longer pass plays like they did against Ole Miss. The longer pass patterns force safeties away from the LOS and force more 5 DB situations.

Michael Ford could have been the greatest RB in LSU history.
