2 1st round DE’s help. They squeezed Reed, and he was inaccurate when he did get some time.

If Miami has linebackers, then yeah.

Who do you think is responsible for preventing the QB from running wild, if not that position?

2 things:

Having a stout pass rush with just 4 (Miami is blessed with 2 studs).

Playing more zone against agile QB’s.

The defense just needs to trust their assignments. Overpursuit has killed this team over the last two seasons.

Overpursuit has been their assignment. Like someone else said, you cant play super aggressive with your pass rushers getting up field and constantly blitz linebackers against that style of qb. But baker does because thats what he knows.
He is like a pitcher who throws 100, works great against alot of hitters, but against good hitters, you need an offspeed to counter or youll get tore up

I do not know what Baker needs to do differently against mobile QB’s but LSU pays him a shite ton of money so he needs to figure it out.

No way you can tell me Miami has that much better players on defense and part, if not most, of LSU problems were not scheme related.

Last year was embarrassing and that defensive performance was inexcusable from all involved.

Step 1: Get NFL dlineman

Step 2: Dont let your all American linebacker break his leg

Step 3: Spy Marcel but hit Marcel. He has to get pressured. He doesn't anticipate throws so pressure eats him alivev

Your defense doesn’t get worn out if your offense can stay on the field.

It is very simple for running qbs. Your star stays in front of the running qb. You move him sideline to sideline with that qb. That is it. You don't blitz him. You don't send him into coverage. You have him stay in front of the qb the entire time. If that star over commits or doesn't listen, then the star can come sit next me. If the dc blitzes that star repeatedly, then that dc can come watch the game next to me too. Our star generally played better after CBK left. He didn't over commit like he was doing against Aggie and that little angry midget from Vandy. But the main reason those two qbs got off on us was the star not doing the above. Whether that was due to the star not listening, not being taught or being schemed that way is not really known. But I am sure it was all 3.

His scheme absolutely needs tweaking agaisnt mobile QBs but the other reality is this : Miami has more dudes upfront than us. That Miami d line was nasty, physical and got after you. Our d line was not nearly as disruptive

Upfront they absolutely do not sure it’s very close . Let’s not forget Miami also perennially recruits top 10 classes and in a deep talent pool. Multiple 4-5 star guys on their front

This is a poor excuse that fans have to stop running with. Mobile QBs in general have eviscerated baker’s defense stop giving him a pass by simply blaming the offense. Diego pavia ate this defense alive all game

All of these things mentioned, but in summary:

- They have 2 dominant DEs, better than LSUs. They get pressure while maintaining pass rusher lanes and not allowing Reed to escape as often.

- LSU plays alot of man coverage given the strength at corner. Leads itself to long runs when we lose contain

- Reed did get loose a decent amount in the 1st half against them. They just sacked him a bunch, which LSU did not. Primarily due to the first point.

- 30mph winds are a QB and kickers worst nightmare, so that certainly helped the defenses.

- Craver was limited
