I would have to say almost all of it.....that was an awesome defensive display. I was impressed with everything about it, especially the constant pressure on qb. the key to any successfull defense.

H2H isn't perfect stat but when LSU gave up 49 to A&M at home this year and Miami gave up 3 points on the road in the playoff... I think it's easy to say Miami has better defensive players than LSU

Both defenses were stingy but the offenses were heavily affected by the wind. Ask anyone who was there - pretty consistent 25-30 mph wind throughout the game.

FTR, I think Chief was ahead of most DCs in scheming against spreads, RPOs, zone reads, etc but sometimes, e.g., Cam, you're just playing against a great player.

He also recruited and played a lot of undersized LBs. The middle guys were prototypical, but the other guys could have been playing safety. The DEs had good speed, but could set an edge.

Chavis' defenses were FAST.

Your defense doesn’t get worn out if your offense can stay on the field.
Miami had the ball 26:16 and had 278 yds total offense. They had 10 pts.

LSU vs A&M, had the ball 29:48 and had 278 yds total offense. We had 25 pts.

So if anything, our offense did a bit more... more points, more time of possession.
A&M got stonewalled by Miami, and butchered us.

Delane and Whit Weeks are certainly as good as Miamis players. Our defensive ends may not have been

Damn so you’re saying that Miami’s defensive players are at least 46 points better than LSU’s? Yikes… And we are excited that we retained the whole defensive staff and make Baker the highest paid DC in college football?

To have Perkins not overrun the QB every single play.

If you have a guy like Ruben Bain, you’re lucky.

Hopefully he learned that your defense is better when their All American MLB plays.

Texas A&M had the ball more and longer against Miami than it did against LSU.

Baker really needs to reassess some things schematically.

Whether it’s a schematic issue or a player issue or more likely some of both, it’s pretty obvious what the problems were this year. We didn’t have a LB or Star who could effectively spy a QB with real speed. Perkins was good against guys like Klubnik and Mateer, but he was just awful vs Reed and Pavia. With Weeks not at full speed for much of the year, this was a huge issue. If you can’t spy, you can’t effectively play man as much as you want vs these QBs.

Then you get to the second issue- our huge drop off playing zone. Because we didn’t have the players to spy effectively, we had to play a ton of zone vs more mobile QBs and our secondary just wasn’t nearly as good playing it. We were much more passive and a split second later to balls.

So it really was both player and coaching together. Whether it’s someone on the roster or someone we have to go out and get, we need an athletic Star or ILB who can handle an assignment like Reed. And Baker has to do a better job of getting better performance from a very talented secondary playing zone.

I mean I agree with your premise in general but Miami’s defensive performance today was head and shoulders above LSU’s performance against ATM. It didn’t matter that Miami’s offense was hot garbage.

It makes a difference when one offense is moving the ball and the other isn’t. Neither moved the ball for huge stretches in the Miami-A&M game. That doesn’t put the same level of fatigue and pressure on your defense.

EVERY team with a mobile QB ripped LSU. Who’s to blame? It’s a big problem going forward.

Matteer didn’t do shite against us. Taylen Green didn’t do shite against us and was forced into multiple turnovers. Klubnik got dominated. It’s never ALL of the mobile QBs. It’s the ones that have difference-making speed like Reed and Pavia that have killed us.

It may not be that he has more talent but definitely more heart and close on talent but tackling is something that Perkins quit doing!
