Feels strange that we don't play Tulane. We didn't play them last year either. We play just about every other Louisiana team in the midweek games.

It's because Tulane's former AD was an arse and demanded that we play a home and home with them every year.

not only that, but they charged Premium MLB type pricing for tickets and refused to let LSU stream the video online forcing fans to buy a season long subscription package to watch video.

so LSU stopped the Home and Home every season and put Tulane on a rotation.

Also did we stop doing the Wally Pontiff Classic? Last one I can tell was in 2022.

Zephyr Field is no longer setup for baseball (Rugby only) so they no longer play there.

I’m kinda shocked that LSU doesn’t still call a game the “Wally Pontiff Classic” and still give proceeds like they did for the Zephyr Field game.

We did that once in 2022. We played ULL at home and it was designated as the Wally Pontiff Jr. Foundation Classic.

Short answer... RPI

Each home win is valued as 0.7 and each road victory as 1.3, a change from the customary 1.0 of the past, which is still in place for neutral site games. Conversely, each home loss will be weighted as 1.3, and each road loss will count 0.7 against a team's RPI.

It’s good for the sport. Skip liked to promote college baseball. Playing a few in state road games isn’t a bad thing. There are a lot in f Tiger fans all over the state that can’t make it to the box.

And it usually it’s an opportunity for those teams to sell out the stadium and generate revenue. It’s a good thing.

How much money do you think they will make on a midweek game in February?

Some factors to consider:
- It allows Tiger fans to see the team play in person who otherwise might not be able to travel to the Box.
- There are some competitive teams in LA. Hard to find midweek games with competitive teams outside LA. I guess maybe USM (2.5 hrs), Lamar (2.5 hrs), South AL (3 hrs), maybe the Houston schools (4 hrs)?
- So it maintains good relationships with the in-state schools.
- Skip used to do it to promote the sport.

ETA: I think it would be cool to have an informal, unofficial I-10 corridor league with Rice, UH, Lamar, McNeese, USL, Tulane/UNO/SLU, USM, USA. I know technically USM and SLU aren't on I-10 but we could play USM at the Gulfport minor league stadium. Lot of good baseball along I-10.

I like it. It’s a nice change of pace from the same mid week games every week

Also LSU folks live all over the state so it’s fun for them also

Mid week games at the Box are half full at best and these games usually have pretty good atmospheres

I actually think we should play more road games mid week.

Except at Southeastern. I'm still bitter about them screwing up the streaming in 2023.

Good for the sport and unlike football these games can be really competitive. SLU and Nichols has beat LSU on a few occasions. So it's not like in football where LSU says hey come play us for a bunch of money so we can get an easy win. These instate schools can usually compete against LSU pretty well in baseball

LSU is far and away the king of baseball in La. Playing ULM or McNeese is a much better option than Purdue Ft Wayne.

I don't like having played Purdue Ft Wayne either, but apparently we had better competition lined up who bailed on us.

I don't think we should be playing in-state schools on weekends though. Midweeks only. I think there should be a few that we play every year, and some that are on a rotation. I would like to work in more midweeks against nearby out of state schools like Lamar, Southern Miss, South Al, Troy, Houston, Rice, Sam Houston.

It seems like we're going to keep playing in these out of state tournaments and pairing them up with a local midweek game. I like that. I wonder if one year we do the Vegas tournament with a game against UNLV.

It would be nice to bring a Big Ten, Big East, or northern Big 12 team into the Box for a series.

I remember going to the LSU / McNeese game when it was here in LC many years ago. Never ever seen that many people at a McNeese baseball game.

All the money that comes with it? How much money do you think the baseball program is profiting off of a single midweek baseball game?

Is there anyone who doesn't play any road games midweek?

Would your buddy prefer they travel to play @Lamar or @Stephen F Austin or something?

How about give local kids an opportunity to watch a big time college team fuel their dreams of becoming a future Tiger.

I go and drive to as many SEC Thursday or Friday night games at the Box as I can on my off weeks (I work nights 7 on and 7 off).

But I make every game locally when LSU comes to play Tulane or UNO. I also went to every Wally Pontiff Classic at the Shrine that I could when I was off.

LSU baseball traveling around the state for mid week games is great for fans.
