I would have never guessed that. Where’s the nearest charter school from ND? In Lafayette?

Id guess its more that Notre Dame is suffering the same fate as all small town schools. Kids graduate and move away and their kids dont go there
Most ND grads live in Laffy, BR or Houston Id reckon

Yes, but the families are not from Crowley

Not a ton of kids in general from CP that go to ND. Even less play football, but the one who do play are good. Let me know if I need to dumb it down further for you.

Another variable is that ND had a summer workout routine which they derived from LSU and implemented it in the late 90s in Crowley. It was head and shoulders above most schools in the state at the time. A lot of people would be surprised with how many high school programs had no structured workout programs until the last decade or so.

It's weird, but Iota has around 600 students now lol. Notre Dame is down to 338. Church Point hasn't budged, Rayne is the same. Crowley, however, has lost people in general. That's the only explanation I can think of other than how poor it is there, so maybe the tuition is just too high for the locals now. My cousins all played for Louie, and I believe the school before he got there in 1997 was 2A like they are now. I wanna say it's tuition and he can't give as many vouchers as he did. The man is arguably the best coach this state has had, and to my knowledge he's still the coach.

Must be one of them Teurlings boys between 2000-2020 that was repeatedly beaten by ND and chalked it up to steroids and not the fact that Sonny isn’t nearly the coach his son is
Yeah sure that’s it

If Crowley is anything like New Iberia, that’s what could be happening. Kids of families that would likely utilize private schools move away.

Their enrollment at reclassification was 302… 338 would be an increase… am I missing something?

I find a hard time believing ND is losing numbers to charter schools.

I think it’s more of people are choosing to enroll there kids in public school around Acadia Parish instead of paying tuition.
Uhh… what do you think charters are?
If public charters are decent and you can save 12k a year…

Part of it.
Also, all private schools except for the big legacy schools (Jesuit, Catholic BR, Newman, etc) are losing enrollment. They are pricing themselves out of the market, especially as publics / cheaters improve.
If your kid can get into honors at a decent public / charter school, then class behavior won’t be a huge issue. You can spend 5k a year on tutors / extra learning if needed and still come out way ahead.

I know a lot of people from Rayne, Crowley and Eunice living in SW and South Lafayette Parish

I agree, but the only public school in the parish that grew is Iota. They're really gonna go to Lafayette just to go to a charter school?

A good amount of kids that would have went to ND went to Teurlings more so girls because ND didn’t have girls basketball for a few years
They are losing some kids from Iota area that would have gone to ND ten years ago
The current freshman class is bigger than the rest and they have some bigger classes coming up
They’ll probably get back closer to 400 in the next few years

Notre Dame will eventually lose their storied football program
It is a forgone conclusion at this point that the program won’t be what it once was (one of the best in the state all classes)
They are hemorrhaging legacy families to Teurlings, St Louis, and Iota. Moreover, they’re no longer getting their pick from Church Point and are even losing kids to Westminster!
Coach Cook is a legend and defines that school. What will happen when he retires?

quote:If the parent is already working in Lafayette is that really a stretch? I know a lot of people who work in the Lafayette area who choose to live in the surrounding parishes because that is either where they grew up, or they built on land they could afford instead of settling for a subdivision. That said I also know a few ND families that are sending kids to Iota now. As others stated Honors classes at a school like Iota is a different classroom environment than what is generally thought of as public.

The school lost another 60 kids from last year's enrollment, down to 338. Anyone else think that Notre Dame will eventually lose their storied football program?
Is Cook still there? If so , looks like they drop down a class and continue to dominate.

They are all busing in to STM

My siblings and I all graduated from ND. They are kind of stuck in a shitty situation. For decades you had leadership that was comfortable doing the same thing that had worked for years, especially when it came to fundraising. Now those donors are either dead or extremely old and as people move away, the donor base gets smaller and smaller and the town gets poorer and poorer. You have to mitigate the loss of donations somewhere, and they do it by raising costs. That leads to less students attending, and the situation continues to get worse.
I will also note that there are a lot of alumni that make great money that would probably be willing to donate to the school. The problem is that ND does not have any sort of alumni system. Graduated years ago and have never heard a peep from anyone at the school. Hell, their "Alumni Contact Form" on their website doesn't even work. Love the school, but they are dying a slow death partly due to the area that they are in but also due to their own complacency
