If I’m Frost why make a deal?
Because he’s probably miserable at this point and doesn’t want to wait until October any more than the AD/fans do.

You played for the school. You care about your players. You don’t want to put yourself or family through anymore torture just to coach for 3 more weeks.

If you know you’re gonna be fired, why force yourself to work super hard for an extra three weeks just to stick it to a program that you have no reason to be upset at?

"Scott Frost is built for success and I'm going to tell you he will win multiple national titles at Nebraska, he will be competing for a Big Ten title within 3 years and he could be the next generations Nick Saban" - Tim Brando, September 3, 2018

This was a situation where even Frost had to know he was done.

Matt Campbell would be a good fit for them. Otherwise get a fantastic recruiter and arm him with some up-and-coming coordinators.

Urban Meyer will be in Lincoln next weekend

Lots of talent already on the roster, not hard to win the Big 10 West, new conference TV deal, new $160 million facilities…..

There is no reason to waste that money.

Why not wait until after Oct 1. There is no benefit from doing it now instead of waiting until Oct 1.

That’s just lighting money on fire. Why?

What benefit do you get by firing him now vs October? I can’t come up with one

From what I’m hearing, the guy they plan on hiring is currently not coaching. I guess they’re hoping to have the new coach in place so they can salvage a decent recruiting class.

The statement didn’t state that he was fired, only they are going to make a change.

Translation:
We are going to fire you soon. We’ll make it official in a few weeks, but it’s inevitable, so there’s no need for you to show up for work anymore.

It’s Nebraska, money is not the issue. It’s fan apathy, which is an at all time high.
Scott wasn’t going to resign, and you could tell the weight and the feeling of failure was killing him. There was no point in letting it continue another week. He knew it was over, at that point you just have to make the move
