Bregman isn’t worth the amount of money he wants. He hasn’t been an All-Star caliber player since before Covid and is a .260 hitter over the last five seasons. He’s asking for money that a .310 hitter would get.
Also his annual awful hitting every year in the first 3-4 months of the season has single handily cost the Astros countless games. It is what it is at this point.

This! So many people just hop on and off bandwagons these days. Players come and go but pick a team for Pete’s sake!!

I only downvoted because you used this phrase.
Try to keep it fresh.

I dont understand the contract demands of taking guys into their late 30s at super high amounts. Most guys are a shell of themselves by that point. Very rare to see (just as) highly productive as their former selves (position player) near 40 years old in MLB. There some freaks but thats not the norm.
For example the Pujols deal… the only way that would have made sense was if he was on roids in his late 30s a la Bonds and Clemens

because thats what you have to pay to get a good player in their prime and having a good player in their prime is really valuable

Well looks like astros may not be done in this. Lots of stuff coming out yesterday about both sides interested in making something happen. Even altuve moving to left field and Paredes or Bregman playing second.

Colt 45’s FOREVER!
I actually saw them play the Cardinals in Houston in 1963 in the old Colt 45's stadium. Stan Musial played for the Cards and it was his farewell year of his career.. The Cards were loaded that year but Houston won the game that night.

7 guys in the entire MLB hit over .300 this year.
Bregman was top 50 in WAR, OPS, and Slugging last year.

It was probably a good thing he turned down the Astros offer as a fan of the organization, b/c that contract would not age well, but I don't doubt that Bregman's abilities fueled by his ego will produce some good years, esp in his games against us.
Just throw everything away and he won't swing

And he wants over $30M per year. Only 12 position players will make that this year. Astros offered $26M. Only 20 position players will make that.

Bregman will be either a Astro, Tiger, Mariner, or Pirate

He’ll be a Yankee by the end of the weekend.

He has certainly been an All-Star worthy player as he has produced 15.7 WAR over that time span and each of the past three season he has had over 4 WAR. It's a far cry from his MVP level prior to Covid but he has been an All-Star level.

Batting average has been almost relegated to irrelavence, you get .220 hitters getting paid all the time.
However, to your point his production has slipped significantly by most other metrics and he has been able to keep his WAR at 4 the last two years largely on his defense where his WAR in his peak years of 2018 and 2019 was in the 8 range both years.
So there would be no logic in giving in to Boras on a long term 6 or 7 year contract when his production shows every sign of declining by every measurement.
He should have taken what the Astros offered, I doubt he's gonna get 6 years from anyone else, it's just not a good risk.

Bregman I think will be a 4 WAR player for the next 4 years. Before starting to slip and by the final year being a negative WAR or 0 WAR. Now if he deserves 25-30m over 6 years then the value is 8m for 1 WAR so 4 WAR would be 32m

Who said this is a thing? You telling me a 1 war player should get paid $8 million?

Typically about what they get on a one year deal on the open market
I bet Verdugo signs for right around that as an example
