Idk if they will go into specifics in the show - but it’s an evolutionary trait they have that basically broadcasts their thoughts in the visual spectrum. Imagine like real life thought bubbles above your head that show anything you think.

I'm a fan of the books.
So I went into watching the series thinking I wouldn't like it. Once I got over the changes made from the books (set in the UK, United Colors of Benetton Cast, etc) I enjoyed it.
I'm interested to see how they handle the material from the 2nd book.
The books are still better though.

I would get the 3 book set. The fourth book, The Redemption of Time, is fan fiction written by another author that the original author approved to be included in the series.

I have...i enjoyed it but I imagine most here would not. The subtitles are a task and the Chinese language is not very pleasing to the ear. It's also very low budgeted so dont expect netflix level production .
It doesnt stray too far from the books though

For some reason the subs on this show move by way faster than other things I've watched. Really have to focus & pay attention, so for that part, it's not a kick back and relax view. I like how they jumped right into some of the sciency stuff which seemed to show up later on in the US version. In particular, the super fine wire that'll slice anything.
I've not seen enough to comment on the FX, but the radio dish is really spot on as I'd expect.

The third book has one of the most annoying characters in all of fiction but she’s supposed to be and these show runners will 100% not get the nuance to what she represents. At least they brought back Davos.

I would read the first book. It won’t have a lot of surprises once you figure out each character’s book counterpart (nearly every character is Chinese with very Chinese names) but it adds much more detail to the story that the Netflix show didn’t have time to include. There is a reason the Chinese version of the show on Prime is 30 episodes for season one/book one.

Its 'Hard-scifi' but nothing you have to have a masters degree to understand. You will likely also be confused about the beginning of the book( ie. why the hell am I reading a book about 1950s China?
