Casablanca on TCM at 9:00 PM CDT

Part of Claude Rains Day on TCM
Times on pic are Eastern.
My favorites from today:
Times below are CDT.
12:30 Passage to Marseille (1944) also features Casablanca actors Humphrey Bogart, Rains, Sydney Greenstreet, & Peter Lorre
2:30 PM Mr. Skeffington (1944) stars Rains with Betty Davis.
5:00 PM Now, Voyager (1942) also features Rains with Betty Davis. It's an ugly duckling story that I think is Davis' best movie. Definitely her best performance on film.
7:00 PM Notorious (1946) is an Alfred Hitchcock spy movie that features Cary Grant & Ingrid Bergman with Rains.
11:0 PM Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) is a Frank Capra political fairy tale that stars Jimmy Stewart, as a Boy Scout like character who's been appointed to replace a senator from an unnamed state. Rains & Jean Arthur are in positions where they can help him learn his new job. By the end Capra makes heroes of all three. It also features some great character actors Harry Carey, Thomas Mitchell, Guy Kibbee & Eugene Pallette that help fill a great cast of politicians, business leaders, and Washington press corps.
Check out the other films at Claude Rains IMDb
ETA: Not sure why they left out The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938).

Why did you come to Casablanca Rick?
- I came for the waters.
But Casablanca is in the middle of the desert.
- I was misinformed.

Probably the Best written film ever made, dialogue wise.
Michael Curtiz also invented modern movie pacing. All of his major works just move and flow like films made 30-50+ yrs later. He's maybe the most underrated director in Hollywood history.

Casablanca is one of those films you watch over and over and catch something new every time

“You despise me, don’t you?”
“If I gave you any thought, I probably would.”
Rick was a stone cold mother f’er.

“Oh, he’s like most men, only more so.”

My favorite film of all time.
For any TCM fans on Twitter, I follow an account called NextOnTCM. The account posts what's coming up in the next hour with the cast and plot info. Nice to have in case I'm out of the house and decide I want to quickly record it on my phone.

Probably a stupid question so don't bite my head off. I've never seen Casablanca but will make a point to record this and check it out as soon as I can. Will it be edited for tv? Like is there anything in the actual movie that might be edited for a TV audience that might detract a bit from the original version? I know with some movies the edited version you get on TV is barely a shell of the actual film itself

Not on TCM. I'm sure they'll show it unedited.

It won't be edited, they rarely edit the films themselves and if they do they give you a notification before the film starts.
If they didn't edit out blackface in Yankee Doodle Dandy, they're not cutting anything from Casablanca. Let's put it that way.

Yvonne: “Where were you last night?”
Rick: “That’s so long ago, I don’t remember.”
Yvonne: “Will I see you tonight?”
Rick: “I never make plans that far ahead.”
Cold, Rick. Cold.

I would have also shown The Invisible Man, Here Comes Mr. Jordan and Angel on My Shoulder for Claude Rains Day.

Maybe the first truly quotable movie,
---Gone With the Wind preceded Casablanca by 4 years
Having said that, "You played it for her you can play it for me. PLAY IT!"
"I am am shocked, shocked! to discover gambling going on here. 'Your winnings, sir. ' "

Love Casablanca, never get tired of watching it and usually catch it every 4 - 5 years.
Also, Mr. Skeffington is another classic and a great watch with one of the best plots of the golden age of the silver screen.

The movie goes by quick without missing information.
Quick witty dialog at times.
"remember, this gun is pointed at your heart."
"Yeah, my least vulnerable spot."

I thought that was TCM’s thing though, that they show movies unedited? Casablanca is PG anyway though.
I already had Notorious set to record.

I've never seen a movie on TCM edited, and there have been some Midnight Cowboy, A Clockwork Orange, Last Tango in Paris all had an X rating and were nominated for an Academy Award and shown un edited.

Yes but aside from maybe “Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn” is it the type of movie you can quote ? It’s not a knock not every movie is as quotable
