Absolutely, Love it and watch it whenever I see it on.

left shields down for no reason & waited till Khan had already made his move. It was obvious something weird was going on. No reason at all not to raise shields in that situation.

Because the movie doesn't happen without the protagonist doing something stupid/foolish at SOME point.

How many movies would be WAY shorter if the protagonist made no mistakes?

No probably about it :)

The only movie I've ever heard some folks liking better is Star Trek IV, because those fans tended to prefer more lighthearted stories (which is perfectly fine).

Star Trek II - III - IV were peak Star Trek. III got a lot of hate at the time (the whole "all odd numbered Star Trek movies suck" thing), and while it's got flaws it's clear that it's biggest sin is being sandwiched between what is considered the two best Star Trek movies.

That score almost by itself raises that film above all the other sequels...

James Horner goes into detail about how he wrote the score for Star Trek II

When I was a kid I built a lot of models and I had every Star Trek ship available but the Reliant for some reason I could never find. So I took the parts from Enterprise and some other scraps I had and built Reliant from scratch. It came out really well I even took matches and created the battle scars from the movie.

i kinda like that they 'cut their teeth' on ST-TMP because they had to shake the rust off and the characters were way too serious so when it came time for a story as good as Khan's the cast and writing was in sync and everything came togeter flawlessly; the collective gasp everyone in the theater let out (we were all ST junkies; even the athletes ) was almost as good as the Darth Vader/Luke reveal. everyone was like OH HELL NO, this is going to get savage. SS..Bot...Bot.....BOTANY BAY! ..OH NO

the funny thing is, we all kind of remembered that episode and what it meant at the same pace as Chekov so that was just an absolute masterful scene that you can't ever recreate; took the proximity of the series ending and just enough time passing to forget the details...

A funny footnote to this, and I've seen Walter Koenig speak to this, is that he read the script and noted that Space Seed was a Season 1 episode and Koenig's Chekov did not appear until Season 2. But, he didn't tell anyone because he would have gotten fired.

But, your point remains well-taken, regardless. Chekov was the audience insert in TWOK.

Walter Koenig was at our Star Trek Convention several years ago. He told a funny story that explained how Khan had met Pavel Chekov.

Apparently, Chekov was in Engineering and was in the bathroom so long that Khan could barely hold himself together. When Chekov finally came out, Khan screamed at him to never get in his way again and said he would always remember his face.

My favorite movie. I have the official poster hanging up in my office.

I said for years that there's no way that this movie gets made for today's audience. Kirk and Khan never share the same space. All their dialogue is through view screens and communicators. Which amps up the tension. Their whole battle is one of wits and experience.

I said that the studios would force some sort of final battle between the two, probably on top of a speeding garbage truck or something, where they beat the shite out of each other.

Then Star Trek Into Darkness comes out, and lo and behold, the climax has Spock and Khan beating the shite out of each other on top of a speeding garbage truck.

It wasn't the perfect Sci-Fi movie, but then again no movie is perfect, but it is easily one of the best.

The focus was on the characters and they drove the plot. Sure, you had your MacGuffin but it was in how the characters interacted with one another that really moved the story along.

I went full obsession with mine, I poked little holes where the lights were and glued a battery powered tiny bulb inside the hull so the ships would light up like in the movies. I was a nut for those models.

I had the light-up MPC model of the revamped Enterprise.

I remember thinking it was so awesome it had a lighting kit powered by 2 double Ds in the lower hatch but I think I only got it to light up once or twice. It was beautiful and a near perfect model for a modeling geek like me. I think it's still around somewhere but in pieces.
